Easily Ignored Obviousness

Usually it was easy to ignore. Usually they came over and he could pretend like nothing had changed, like he was still the same old womanizing sociopath. He could pretend there was nothing more to his presence than a much needed extra set of hands.

There was something about today that would not allow him to ignore it. There was a subtle difference in the looks, in the touches, and Logan could no longer ignore them. He stopped mid sentence and spun around to face them where they sat on his couch. Alec was slumped like he owned the place arm slung across the back of the couch. Max sat beside him, nestled against his side, feet up on the coffee table.

They were playing Rock Paper Scissors, paying no heed to him. It's what forced him into acknowledging it. They never even noticed he'd stopped talking; they were so focused on each other. His fingers played with her hair even as his other hand formed a rock easily smashing her scissors. He smirked in victory and placed a kiss to her temple. She didn't push him away, didn't yell at him, and didn't even hit him. She snuggled closer and laced her fingers—the ones which had formed scissors—with his that had just conquered hers in such a childish manner.

They were totally oblivious to his presence and he knew he could break them apart just by making a sound, that he could have Max pulling away and feeling guilty. Once he might have done just that but now, now he would be the bigger man, tonight he would finally let go of his own childish fantasy. Tonight he raised his eyes to look at them and a small smile formed.

'I like seeing you happy.'

Their confused eyes snapped to him and he almost laughed at how comical it was.

'You're happy. I like it.' He focused on Alec, 'Don't screw it up.' And then on Max,

'You don't hide from him.'

Leaving them both speechless Logan turned back to his computer, picking up from where he left off as if he hadn't stopped mid sentence to have a mild epiphany. Though even the dark details of this job couldn't get rid of the smile that stayed on his lips.
