On the Honeymoon
Houshou and Ayako were having an intense debate (a.k.a. making out) on their couch when the phone rang. Bou-san was going to ignore it, but he just couldn't. that little ringing noise was just too darn annoying. Then he was planning on claiming that the caller had gotten the wrong number, but when he heard Mai's voice he was just too curious. She an Naru were only a day and a half into their honeymoon; what could she possibly be calling about?
"Hey, Mai, how's Paris?"
Ayako crossed her legs and waited. She could be patient.
"Well, there's this dinner with Ayako's parents … Kind of, yeah … Sure, further decreasing my in-law's opinion of me is high on my priorities list … That was sarcasm, Mai … What? Why would you want us to do that? … You're kidding, right? … No, we wouldn't want to interrupt -- Mai! I appreciate the thoughtfulness, but I'd rather not be informed … You're serious? The whole thing? … And you wouldn't mind even a little bit? … Let me ask Ayako. Yeah, I'll call you back. Have fun."
He finally hung up, rolling his eyes.
"What was that?" Ayako asked. She settled back, curling against Bou-san's chest.
"You're never going to believe this," he said, shaking his head. "Mai and Naru want us to go on their honeymoon."
Ayako started laughing. She stopped very suddenly. "Are you really serious?"
"The hotel is supposed to be haunted. Mai really really wants to investigate, and Naru isn't passing up the work. They need exorcists."
Ayako thought for a minute. "Where are they again?"
"Paris. Naru's paying."
"Ah, what the hell. Let's go."
They resumed their debate.
