The phone rings. Again. And again.

He dashes down the stairs, trying to get it before whoever's on the other end hangs up.

Fuji gets there on the third ring. "Fuji residence," he says politely. "Who are you looking for?'

"Is Syuusuke there?"

He immediately relaxes. "Speaking. How are you, Tezuka?"

"I heard you won against Rikkai—how did it go?" Oh, Tezuka. Always so focused on tennis, tennis, tennis.

"Doubles one and two lost," he starts off.

"So all three singles won?" Tezuka asks. Fuji nods, before remembering that Tezuka can't see him. He murmurs and agreement. "Who was in singles?"

"Ryoma, me, and Inui," he smiles.

"Who was against who?" he questions.

"Inui was against…Yanagi, was it? I think that's right. I was playing Akaya and Ryoma was facing Sanada."

"Genichirou?" Tezuka asks. There's a strain of surprise in his captain's voice.

Fuji nods. "Yes, that Sanada."

"Oh," Tezuka says, as if remembering something. "Oishi said something went funny during your match—what happened?"

"I got hit in the head," Fuji says nonchalantly. "Nothing much."

"Are you okay?" Tezuka asks, genuinely concerned.

"I am now," Fuji replies honestly.

There is a pause.

"What happened?" Tezuka repeats.

"I…wasn't paying attention and got hit," Fuji admits. It's the truth—well, part of it at least.

"And then what happened?" Tezuka prompts.

"I couldn't see."

There is another pause. Fuji waits for Tezuka to say something. Tezuka tries to figure out what to say.

"You're sure you're alright?" he asks, finally.

Fuji smiles. "Positive."

"How did the other matches go?" Tezuka asks. He listens, nodding once or twice.

"Oh, here? It's fine," he says. "No, not as good as home."

He waits, hearing what is being said. "I'm fine. When? I'm not sure. I'll let you know."

Tezuka almost smiles. "I do too." He waits, seeing what will happen.

"I will. Yes, I'll try. Soon."

There's an exclamation from the other side.

"Alright then, I'll talk to you later?" There's an agreement. "Okay. Good job on the win," he congratulates, before adding in something as an almost afterthought. "Syuusuke."

"Thanks, Kunimitsu," he hears Fuji say happily. They hang up, and he puts the phone back on its hook and leaves to go practice some more.

FIN.

Lulz this be mein submission for my anime club's fanfic contest. And when I mean my anime club, I mean my anime club. I'm not judging because I'd be biased. XD

I'm a little out of touch with these guys (by out of touch I mean I haven't tried to write them in like a year), so I apologize for the badness.

MMOM is starting soon, so I won't be posting anything for a while, sorry.

Thansk for reading, hope it wasn't too bad. (:
