: Into the moonlit grove
The girl-child wanders
Lonely but not alone
Beneath the ancient trees
As the world holds its breath—
Silently she goes
Bare feet light upon the earth
Tender after night has fallen
Airy with a ghost moon rising.
Haunting is the beauty of innocence
Dark eyes sparkling, jewels of dew
Porcelain skin shining, subtle in light
: Her yearning hands reach out
To the one who waits in shadows
She searches through the night for
her hero, her savior, her hope
She weaves around the trees
Dark hair flying free
As the dances of the spirits
Begin their circles of wonder
And she joins without hesitation
The golden glow drawn asunder
Like fireflies in tall grasses
Waving in some gentle wind
: He waits for her in the distance
Always drawn to her mystery
Yet so resistant of warmth
Or simply embraced too tightly
By his lover, cold perfection—
His markings vivid as a terrible conflict
Rages within his soul
whispering:
She won't be a child forever
— I know
But tonight she dances
And my soul dances with her
