Chapter One: Just To See You Smile

It wasn't her antics (though he found them cute every once and while) or the way she laughed whenever he said something funny, but it was her smile that he liked best about her.

Of course, alot of his friends would just say that he liked everything about her (which was also true), but if he had to pick one thing, it'd be her smile.

When she first came to East High, her smile was what caught his eye first before anything else about her: and usually that didn't happen because the girls he mostly hung out with was Sharpay's group of friends, who call themselves the "Sharpettes".

"Right, so what does fortitude mean?"

Her voice send him back to reality, and he gave her a smile.

"Um...does it mean some type of attiude?"

The small blonde that sat before him bowed her head on the table, but he could see a smile forming on her lips, and she looked up at him again.

"No, Ryan. It doesn't. It means courage. Or bravey, even." she explained, and Ryan nodded, giving her a smile back.

"Okay."

He'd do anything to make her smile.

Tell jokes (even if they were abit corny), compliment her, or just do very simple gestures such as carrying a book for her if she didn't already have too many.

And his reward would just to see her smile.

Or just to laugh, giggle, or grin.

"...Ryan? Are you even listening to me?"

Ryan shook his head, and looked at Haylie, who wasn't smiling, but frowning.

"Of course I am!"

"No, your not! Your just zoning out! Is something the matter?" Haylie asked, and Ryan shook his head.

"There isn't." Ryan told her, and Haylie still had that questioning look in her eyes, and Ryan chuckled.

"I'm fine, Haylie. Stop being so concerned."

"If your sure..."

Ryan smirked, and looked at her.

Haylie was famous for being concerned about everyone in their small Wildcat group: especially about him.

"No worries, Haylie. Unless you think I'm going to fail that english test tomorrow.."

Haylie rolled her eyes at him.

"I think your going to do well, Ryan. You just need to know what fortitude means." Haylie explained, closing her notebook, and Ryan smiled at her.

"Of course I know what it means! It means bravey."

Another smile appeared on her lips.

"Now your just being a show-off." Haylie replied, getting down from the stool, and Ryan did the same.

"No, I'm not. I'm showing you I know the word fortitude." Ryan said, and Haylie placed her notebook back in her backpack, and she turned around to face him.

"You always say that." she stated, hoisting her backpack to her shoulder, and Ryan followed her outside to her car.

"No, I don't." Ryan explained, and Haylie looked at him.

"Of course you do! Whenever we study together, you say--"

That's when Ryan kissed her on the lips, and he pulled away, smiling.

"You know, you talk way too much."

That's when Haylie returned her smile, and got into her car.

"I'll see you at school, okay?" she asked, and Ryan nodded as he gave her a small wave, and he went back inside the house.

All he ever wants to see is her smile.
