"An Ugly Truth"-By Rose Hustle

"What did you just say?"

"I said, have you two ever slept together…even before I was in the picture?"

"You know that we have not. I'm sure he has told you himself countless times," Diana said as she walked toward the door to leave.

"Don't act so offended. I only asked because something has changed within him and I needed to know for certain that it wasn't my worst fear," she said as she sat down on the recliner.

"What has changed?"

Lois looked at Diana for a long moment before continuing.

"Ever since he's come back from that mission with you in Asgard, well, he's been distant. He's been less careful of certain things."

Diana walked over to Lois and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"What is it, Lois?"

"When me and him are intimate he always treats my body like glass. He could literally break me…but when he came back from that mission he forgot himself."

"He hurt you."

"Not on purpose but I have a pretty bad bruise, right here," she said as she lifted her shirtsleeve to show the swollen arm.

"He was bracing himself against my arm and he held a little too tight. I was crying and whimpering when he finally snapped out of whatever fantasy he was in…He felt awful about losing control. He never did before."

Lois was watching Diana again. Diana's own eyes strayed to the floor.

"Nothing happened between us. I am a woman of integrity. My word is everything."

"So, why can't you look at me?"

Diana turned up to face her that moment.

"We have not slept together…but there was a moment in Asgard when we almost…"

"Oh, I see."

"No, you don't see. We were there for thousands of years and he never could get you out of his mind…it wasn't until one night after an extremely rigorous battle in which he lay wounded when his restraint finally collapsed…"

"Please, continue," Lois said with her eyes focused on her own hands.

"I was dressing his chest wound when he pulled my hair behind my ears. I looked up then and his lips were so very close to my own, but circumstances outside of our control stopped anything from going further."

"What do you mean?"
"At exactly that moment one of the soldier's requested our help in the repair of a shipping vessel and that was that."

"Heroes always go where they're needed," Lois said with her patented brand of sarcasm.

"You wanted to know and now you do. Do you feel better now?"

"No. I feel like I'm second in line. He obviously wishes something had occurred. Otherwise, I wouldn't have this bruise on my forearm."

"Kal, loves you more than anything. He just forgot himself that night."

"I know he loves me. God, I know that, but I also know that he is one of those rare individuals that is honestly in love with two people."

Diana was about to protest the statement but she knew it was futile. Kal did love her and he always had. However, timing had never been their friend.

"I will never come between you two. I am not waiting to have Kal."

"I know you are with Steve Trevor and that you deeply love him, but Diana you're kidding yourself if you don't realize that a part of you is waiting for Clark…the same way that he's waiting for you."

"Lois, I…"

"Look, I didn't mean to have such an intimate discussion when I invited you over. These things have been bothering me for a while. I wanted to know the truth and I do trust your word."

"Well, I'm glad for that at least…I should go."

"Yeah, I really need to finish this story that I've been working on."

"Good-bye, Lois."

"Bye, Diana."

The creaking door shut behind her.
