Remembering Tuesday (Dean)

Wednesday Sam gets in the car and asks Dean what he remembers from Tuesday.

Dean says he remembers Tuesday. He remembers eating breakfast, checking the Mystery Spot, washing the car. Dean's Tuesday is a detailed mash-up of every Tuesday Sam lived through. Dean says he remembers the waitress does archery, remembers that guy's daughter was hot, remembers the trickster.

Dean remembers a lot more about Tuesday. Dean remembers the cold hand of a reaper. He remembers the cold fear of realization. He remembers a very warm welcome.

Sam says, when Dean would die, Sam would blink and it would all start over. Dean doesn't tell Sam he remembers screaming for every one of those blinks, remembers begging for Sam to open his eyes. Dean doesn't tell Sam he remembers that a second in hell is an eternity. Dean doesn't tell Sam he remembers hundreds of seconds and that their memory fills places in him that they shouldn't.

Instead, Dean tells Sam he remembers Tuesday.

He doesn't tell Sam he can't remember Bobby's phone number, can't remember which side of the Impala the gas cap is on, can't remember how many guns are in the trunk.

He doesn't tell Sam he can't remember what day of the week Dad died, what Mom's eyes looked like, or any of seventh grade.

He doesn't tell Sam he can't remember Monday, the Sunday before that, or the day before.

He doesn't tell Sam there are gaps in his memory he doesn't even have names for.

He doesn't tell Sam, because Sam asks what Dean remembers from Tuesday, not what Dean forgets.
