Detective Olivia Benson sat at the bar nursing her drink sullenly. She was alone…on Valentine's Day…again. But this year was supposed to be different. This year, she had a girlfriend. But her girlfriend was working late and so the romantic night they could have had was postponed indefinitely.
"Mind if I join you?" came the familiar voice of an old friend.
Olivia looked up from her drink just long enough to offer a small, sad smile. "Not at all Abbie."
Abbie Carmichael ordered her drink and settled into her bar stool.
"So why aren't you with the Mrs tonight?" Olivia finally broke the silence.
"She's more of a workaholic than yours is," Abbie grunted. "You would think that she'd take the night off considering I flew here fromDC."
"You would think mine would take the night off considering I did," Olivia countered.
They both sat in silence. The only sound either woman made was the occasional clinking of the ice in their glasses or the sound of their glasses hitting the bar.
"We're taking shots," Abbie announced suddenly.
Olivia was surprised by her friend's sudden declaration. "Okay," Olivia said wearily. She was too sad to argue.
"What'll it be?" the bartender asked gruffly.
"I'll have a Naughty Red Head," Olivia replied with a smirk.
Abbie raised her eyebrow in amusement. "I guess that means I'll have a Blue Eyed Blonde," Abbie ordered.
The bartender returned shortly with their shots. The women raised the small glasses in toast.
"To our girlfriends, who are so very dedicated," Olivia proposed.
"To their jobs," Abbie griped.
Downing the drinks, the women slammed the shot glasses down onto the bar forcefully.
The two women sat for another minute in silence as they contemplated what they would do for the rest of the night. "Want to do another round?" Abbie asked.
"Sure," Olivia replied. "It's better than going home to an empty apartment."
"Bartender! A Naughty Red Head for my friend here," Abbie implored the barkeeper.
"And bring my friend a Blue Eyed Blonde, would ya?" Olivia returned the favor.
The bartender didn't move to fill their order. She just stood and stared at the doorway behind the women with an amused smirk.
Just as Abbie and Olivia opened their mouths to speak again, two voices called out in unison from behind them, "you rang?"
Abbie turned to look directly into piercing blue eyes that made her melt. Olivia mirrored the motion and was met by a cocky smirk that made her smile involuntarily.
"Case?" "Lex?' Abbie and Olivia questioned simultaneously.
"Your order's ready," the bartender voiced her amusement.
"I thought you had to work late," Olivia said.
"Seriously? I'm surprised you fell for it. I never work later than you," Casey said as she wrapped her arms around her detective's neck. "Come home, Liv," she whispered seductively.
"What about you?" Abbie asked, not quite ready to believe she had been fooled so easily.
"You told me right after New Years that you were flying in for Valentine's Day. I've been planning this for a month," Alex replied smugly as she wrapped her arms around her own brown eyed girl.
Olivia wrapped her arms around Casey's waist and turned to look at Abbie. "I think we've been had."
Abbie smirked. "Hey. She can have me any way she wants me," she drawled as she rubbed her hands playfully along Alex's hips.
"Come on you two, we've got plans for you," both SVU ADAs said as they rolled their eyes at their girlfriends.
Both brunettes pretended to struggle as they were pulled to their feet by their girlfriends.
"Surprise…" Alex said before she placed a small kiss on Abbie's lips.
"Happy Valentine's Day…" Casey said after she kissed Olivia sweetly.
Abbie and Olivia both had goofy, giddy grins plastered on their faces. Turning to each other they said in unison, "Valentine's Day surprise indeed!"
Two brunettes exited the bar with an ADA on her arm, to enjoy a night of romantic bliss.
