Chicken Sandwich
-
Ed stared hungrily at the chicken sandwich that was placed on his tray and flashed a brilliant smile at the cafeteria worker. Anyone who willingly gave him food, especially when he was starving, deserved some sort of pleasant 'thank-you'; even if it was a non-verbal one. The cafeteria worker, an older woman with gray hair, gave him a kindly smile in return, then turned her attention to the next soldier in line.
Glancing down at his tray, Ed's mouth began to salivate heavily and he could literally feel the soft bread, crispy lettuce, tender tomato, and plump chicken in his mouth. He imagined biting into the sandwich and feeling the juice from the roasted meat drizzle down his chin... He blinked and wiped at his face, then felt a little embarrassed when he realized he was drooling.
Looking around the packed lunch room, Ed tried to find where Roy had wandered off to, and when he found him, Ed hurried over and sat down; eager to fill his empty stomach. After sitting, Ed tenderly picked up his sandwich, licked his lips, and said, his voice filled with unbridled desire, "Hellooo there, chicken sandwich..."
He took a big bite, closed his eyes, and moaned happily at the delicious sensations mingling on his tongue. Chewing, Ed sighed happily and opened his eyes only to see Roy staring at him in flat disbelief.
"What?" Ed asked around the food in his mouth.
In a sullen tone, Roy asked, "Why don't you ever talk to me like that?"
Ed blinked. "Huh? Like what?" he asked, then swallowed the food and frowned when Roy gave him a disbelieving look before shaking his head and mumbling something about finding cologne that smelled like chicken sandwiches.
Okay... Ed thought and, shrugging, took another bite. He liked Roy a lot, but the man had some really strange ideas sometimes...
