I don't own Twilight.
There was one way that it could end for her. Her pain, her loss, her misery. She moved slowly towards the edge of the cliff. Her bare feet curled over the edge as loose rocks tumbles down below. A few seconds passed before she heard the soft thud of the rocks hitting the ground. She leaned forward slightly, her brown hair falling softly into her heart-shaped face as she did. It had to be at least 100 feet down, putting it mildly. She'd always been afraid of heights, but somehow it didn't matter now. She felt nothing. Numb.
No, that wasn't true. She felt sorrow. Her baby, just a few days old had died. Her poor son had fallen ill and spent his last days sick and miserable. What a horrid way to go, especially for someone who hadn't seen the glorious things in life, like a bird flying for the first time, a child learning to read, a mother with her child at the local pharmacy. If her son had known his would be father, Esme couldn't bare it. She spat his name out, "Charles."
Charles had abused her, frightened her on many occasions. And left her for the war. This didn't bother her, though, she actually quite enjoyed herself during these two years. But then he came back. Oh, well. She didn't have to deal with him anymore, because soon she'd be without pain completely, just in a matter of minutes. No more pain in the world, just the wind in her hair as she twist and turn on the fall down. Then she'd be in an angel's arms and see her baby once more. They'd be happy again.
A tear slid down her round cheek. To tell the truth, she was feeling more than sorrow. Fear. She was afraid of what was to come. Would the Lord let her into heaven after cheating on her husband while he was away? After running? After jumping? Would she just wander the earth aimlessly for the rest of the Earth's years? What then? Nothing? Just silence? She shuddered and pushed the thoughts from her head.
She fixed her skirts slipped on shoes. She took the hat from it's perch on the tree next to where she was standing on the cliff edge and tied it to her head tightly. Just a few more moments and she'd be free. As she jumped off the cliff, two words rang out in her mind.
"Carlisle Cullen."
And then there was nothing.
