A/N: Just a short poem I decided to write after reading Twilight and attending a poetry reading with my school... as you can probably see, it kind of got to me. Set just after the first book, hope you like it. Bella and Edward both unfortunately belong to Stephanie Meyer. It's basically Bella reflecting on Edward during book one. Let me know what you think!

When I first met you,

I didn't understand,

You were surrounded in darkness,

But you always did have the upper hand,

With your beauty and charm,

I never stood a chance,

You did what you could to keep me from harm,

And then gave into a romance,

-

You allowed me to get close; you never ceased to fascinate me,

How your touch is so hot, yet so cold,

How you're so young, yet so old,

Every night I lie awake,

And I know you're watching me,

How much more of this can I take?

Are we meant to be?

You're scared to get close, afraid I'll break,

With your hindsight and abilities,

Why can't I make you see?

-

I love you, Edward,

And I know you love me back,

The way two people should,

Do you really think I'll crack?

I know we're not right for each other,

We both live in different worlds,

But do you honestly think I would rather,

Be back in Phoenix with my mother?

-

I'd give up my soul for you,

If it meant being together,

I know you don't want me to,

Give up my life,

But I can't wait forever,

-

We're balancing on love's knife,

Waiting to fall,

But as you keep telling me, it's your call,

You've been alone for so long,

Such an empty past,

But you have me now,

How long can it last?
