"Charlie," Claire began as she looked up from her journal. The cave kept her cool as she wrote, trying to forget the nightmares she had been having.
"Yes Claire?" He asked looking over from the fire he was attempting to start as the sun was going down. He seemed willing to drop almost anything for her. And that left her with a good feeling.
"What should I name my baby?" she asked with a smile. This question had been on her mind and he was the only one she wanted to ask. He made her feel safe, and happy above all other things.
Charlie smiled. He set the sticks he had been working with down for a moment and moved to sit next to her, "Do you know if it's a girl or a boy?"
"No," Claire shook her head, "I kind of wanted it to be a surprise," she said. She put the pen at the page she was on and shut the small book, setting it down next to her. "But when I'm not trying to figure out what I'm going to do about raising a baby here, I want to have names for the baby," she said. Even though she had only known Charlie for the past month or so, she already got the feeling she'd rather the baby be his than Thomas'.
"Well, if it's a boy I think you should name him Charlie. After the most handsome man you've ever met." Charlie replied with a smile and a laugh. He was so cute.
Claire laughed as well, "I'll keep that in mind," she told him, tucking a strand of her long blonde hair behind her ear.
"I also think Aaron is a good, strong name for a boy," Charlie nodded, "And if it's a girl…I don't really know. My brother named his girl Megan, and if I had been a girl I would've been named Clara," he smiled a bit wider.
Claire laughed, "Well I'm glad that you're Charlie," she said. After a brief pause of just exchanging smiles and glances she spoke once more, "I'm really glad, actually…"
"Really?" Charlie smiled looking quite proud of himself.
"Really," Claire nodded, resting her hand on her belly. Charlie slowly put his hand on top of hers. She looked at him, her heart fluttering a bit. "Charlie…"
"Yes, Claire?" he asked looking up into her eyes, their gaze holding for a couple of precious moments.
"I…" The Aussie bit her lip, "I wanted to thank-you for all that you've done," Though that really wasn't what she had wanted to say at first.
"You're welcome, Claire," Charlie grinned his cute smile as he removed his hand from on top of hers, "Now let's see if I can get this fire started," he added moving towards the pile of sticks again. He began to rub two sticks together quickly, hoping for a spark.
"Uhm…Charlie…" Claire said after a moment.
"Yeah?" He asked still looking at the fire intently.
"Jack has matches in the bag over there," she said pointing at a suitcase towards the mouth of the cave.
"Oh, right," Charlie smiled and stood up, wiping his hands on his pants. "I suppose he does," he looked back at her, a bit embarrassed. But she smiled at him and he smiled back, like they were the only people in the world.
