Bella's POV:

I drove down the highway until I found a satisfactory area with close to no traffic. I turned off onto a small, unmarked-dirt road, and I was immediately engulfed by dense walls of looming evergreens. I drove for another few minutes or so, until I was certain Big Red couldn't be seen from the main road.

After I parked, I hastily removed my flannel and leapt out of the driver door. I could feel my body practically vibrating with pent up adrenalin. I didn't even pause to lock my door, since I felt confident no one would come across my truck here.

Without missing a beat, I swiftly harnessed a strong gust of wind that launched me forward. I used this boost to launch myself nearly ten feet in the air, towards the trunk of a fallen tree. I landed on it in a crouch. I paused for only a split second before I jumped off the log as hard as I could. Once again a strong gust of wind embraced me and increased my speed as I leaped ahead. Running like this made me feel truly weightless—completely at the mercy of the air. For as long as I can remember, if I trusted in the elements, they'd never abandon me.

Just as I landed, I used the earth to help soften my impact. The earth appeared to sink in on itself, and almost like a trampoline, it propelled itself outwards, increasing my speed in perfect timing with my stride.

I rapidly approached what appeared to be a clearing in the trees. Without a second thought, I jumped and threw myself through the opening in the trees.

As I flew forward into the air, the ground beneath me came to an abrupt end. I soared over the edge of a large cliff—nearly a hundred feet over the forest below. With wide eyes, I took in the breathtaking aerial-view of the vast forests that now surrounded me. This was the world I loved, the one I was meant to be apart of. Immersed in nature was the only place I felt completely free. Nothing could ever hold a candle to this kind of spectacular beauty.

As I began to lose altitude, I summoned another wind to gently slow my descent. I floated to the ground like a leaf in the Autumn breeze. I reached the base of the cliff smiling widely—my cheeks were bright red from the brisk weather, and my hair looked as wild as the forest surrounding me. My bun was now a loose collection of hair near the base of my neck.

I inhale deeply and I let out a couple of stress relieving howls. Nature was my freedom from the human world—my safe haven. Out here I could let all of my frustration and anger go into the wide-open sky.

After ever so elegantly warming up my vocals, I noticed two spirit forms approaching me. The first form was an ethereal looking deer with antlers that curved into several gentle spirals. The second form best resembled a white, incredibly fluffy beach ball with large eyes. It seemed to effortlessly float through the air next to the deer spirit.

"Why hello, what noble looking spirits." I smiled at them warmly as I slowly approached. The spirits seemed pleased with my compliments as they approached me with even more curiosity.

The round floating spirit reached out telepathically, since it appeared to have no physical mouth, "Hello, beautiful lady… who are you?" it's voice was gentle—the innocent tone sounded almost child-like.

"My name's Bella. I'm a protector—blessed with control over the elements by Gaia herself." I playfully kneel down before them, as if I were a knight swearing my fealty to their kingdom. Clearly I love dramatics, but at the same time, it was also genuine. I take my responsibility to protect the earth and her spirits very seriously—they needed a champion and I'm determined to live up to that role.

"You're going to...protect us?" both spirits stare at you with wide, inquisitive eyes. The purity in the spirit's tone is exactly why I would give my life to protect them and their world—our world.

I smile at the two spirits brightly, "With my life. That is if you, and the other spirits are willing to accept me into your absolutely, fantastical forest." The spirits look at each other before smiling and nodding excitedly.

"And what can I call you two?" I asked.

"My name is Yaaro," said the round white spirit. It appeared to wiggle gleefully as it introduced itself.

"And I'm Lue," the deer spirit spoke up in a quiet, mousy voice, "Can we stay and watch you?"

"We've never seen powers like yours…" said the small, floating spirit as it bobbed excitedly in the air.

"I'd be honored to hold an audience with such noble forest spirits, such as yourselves," I say as I move into a deep bow. The spirits smiled and giggled in response. They both settled onto a soft patch of grass, and watched eagerly.

I faced the cliff with my body turned to the side. I plant my feet in a wide square stance—the idea behind the stance was to become as solid as the rock before me. In one strong moevment I forcefully brought my right foot down onto the earth, at the same time, I thrusted my right fist upwards in a sharp-uppercut motion. Just as I did, a tall column of rock shot up from the ground directly in front of me.

I inhaled deeply before punching a segment of stone out of the column; it broke away from the rest of the tower, and flew with deadly speed into the cliff behind it. It hit the stone wall with enough force to shatter it into minute fragments.

I continued to hit the pillar with a combination of punches, and ended with a spinning roundhouse kick. Each large rock slab that broke away exploded against the cliff with tremendous force.

As the dust settled, I lifted my foot and brought it down firmly against the earth one more time. This time, instead of moving any rock around me, I closed my eyes in intense concentration and I'm able to feel the vibrations of everything touching the ground around me—from the trees swaying in the wind, down to the ants crawling across the forest floor. I didn't feel anything to be concerned about (aka no people) within at least a hundred yards from where I stood.

I kept my eyes closed in intense concentration as I began to move my arms in fluid wave-like motions. I focused on reaching out mentally to connect with the water contained within the surrounding plant life. The trees in my immediate area begin to sway with my arms in perfect sync. I continued to reach out with my consciousness, trying to expand the range of my control.

One by one, trees slowly begin to join in my rhythmic dance. I've been able to expand my reach to about a two hundred foot radius. The trees under my control moved with a seemingly unnatural synchronization and fluidity.

After I stretched my control over the trees to their limit, I gradually released them from my control and I slowly brought my hands together, creating a small concentrated ball of air. I kept my eyes closed as I focused on creating a steady air current around my body. I put all my trust into the air around me to fully support my weight, and I slowly lifted my legs into a sitting position. The current around me held me suspended in the air. I kept my eyes closed as I entered a state of deep meditation.

When I meditate, I'm able to absorb the surrounding spiritual energy, and allow it to recharge my mental and physical strength. I welcome these restorative energies to envelope my entire being. I let my consciousness drift as the comforting embrace of the air around me helps me feel completely at ease.

Edward's POV:

I really needed to hunt. Yes, we were all hungry and needed to hunt, but I needed to hunt. I was only barely able to hold myself together today when I encountered the new girl, Bella.

Of course when I first saw her enter the main office this morning, it was impossible not to notice how physically attractive she was. She had thick dark brown hair, light olive skin, and storm-like eyes―beautiful. However, her beauty was far from the most noticeable thing about her.

Before I could even set foot in the main office, I noticed all her thoughts were clouded by a static-like haze. It was like an unknown energy was interfering with my powers.

The next thing I noticed about her hit me like Emmett with a baseball bat; the moment I entered that small main office building I was hit with the most overwhelmingly, intoxicating scent I'd ever encountered.

As much as I hate to admit it, I was scared to move― terrified even. I feared I'd lose control over myself and attack her right there in the middle of biology class. One of the only things that kept my thoughts cohesive were her entertaining reactions. She looked like she wanted to rip my face off, and I'll admit, I thought it was rather… charming.

I guess that might not come across as entertaining to most, but the fact that she seemed so ready to fight a starving ninety year old vampire fascinated me to say the least. True, she didn't know I was a vampire, but something about the fire in her eyes told me that it wouldn't deter her at the least. She had an intimidating presence about her that, in my experience, was uncommon in most humans.

I took off running through the woods at a break-neck speed. I intended to outrun any further thoughts of this mysterious girl― at least for now. Right now I was far too hungry to think of her impossibly, delectable scent.

Luckily, just as the memory of her euphoric smell invaded my thoughts, I spotted a deer who had no chance to react before I was upon it―ferociously devouring its blood from its neck. I felt my primal frenzy calm instantly as the animal's hot blood fill my mouth. However I knew I'd certainly need to feed more before I was ready to face Ms. Swan and her scent again.

Just as I finished off my second rabbit, a strange sound caught my attention. It was someone yelling, they didn't sound panicked or fearful, but there were rarely any people that travelled this far out in the forest. I continued to listen carefully for a few minutes until I heard several loud crashes that convinced me to investigate.

I took off in the direction of the noise. However I came to a quick stop when I approached a large group of trees swaying dramatically as if under the influence of a strong wind. It was unsettling the way they all seemed to move at once. I began to approach one of the swaying trees when they all suddenly fell still. There's something new happening in Forks, and I intend to find out what it is.

I broke into a sprint once more, continuing in the direction of the loud sounds I'd heard. Just as I neared the base of a large cliff, I picked up on a scent. The scent was one that was l already burned into my memory―it was the scent that had been haunting my thoughts since a chance encounter this morning.

I followed the smell until I was just outside a small clearing. As I approached, I slowed and crouched down in the nearby bushes. I intended to remain hidden for as long as possible.

When I peered into the clearing, my suspicions were confirmed, but they were also followed by an entirely new list of questions. It was Bella, the new girl, the Sheriff's daughter... and she was currently floating three feet off the ground. Her eyes shone a bright white color, and she seemed to be in some sort of meditative state.

Out of nowhere she seemed to have reacted to something over her shoulder― is she talking to someone? She turned her head and suddenly her gaze met mine. So much for staying hidden.
