Mind and Body

Some women preferred the strong and silent sidekick. They swarmed around him like bees around a hive, and if Jak Mar rubbed his neck the task was quickly taken over by a girl and her slim fingers. He was given nicknames and phone numbers, flirtatious looks and occasionally free drinks.

Tess didn't mind - this meant she had the real gold nugget all by herself.

There was nothing quite like Daxter. Tess gladly admitted the visits he made brightened her day, and the safest way to know he was incoming was when Jak showed up in the bar (you never saw one without the other). Within a few seconds thereafter she would have Daxter sitting on the counter, expecting a backrub and the latest information. He might be a little too interested in certain parts of her body, but Tess took it as a compliment - if she was not totally ignoring those glances like she ignored beer stains on the counter. Unlike so many other men, at least Daxter looked her in the face first.

Something Tess really liked about him was how he depictured his adventures when he retold them to her and the patrons of the bar. He could retell events in a manner that made her gape in wonder. May they be lies, may they be truths or just exaggerations of it- ''Daxter, you're amazing'' was a statement that in Tess's opinion was truer than anything.

Another great side of Daxter was his street-smartness. He might appear to be a jittery talkative coward, and people tended to assume his intelligence was thereafter - but Tess and Jak thought differently. Daxter talked about everything that crossed his mind, and his alcohol sense is not the best - it still didn't mean he was a complete idiot. It was tricky to hide things from him, and Jak would probably lose every race without Daxter shouting advices from the backseat.

But most of all Tess adored this everyday love he brought, like how he made her laugh with his jesting, or the affectionate nicknames and cuddles. Just the other day he arrived carrying a flower he had unearthed outside the stadium for her. And when Daxter was out there saving the city with Jak it felt like he was saving her in particular.

But wasn't she even a little interested in Jak and his looks? People kept asking. Sort of, but not in the same way as Keira was interested in him. Tess loved Daxter, and she also loved Jak - but only because with Jak always came Daxter.

So, my first fanfic published during 2008! I'm kind of surprised it was a TessxDax one, even though I adore them in the games I've often regarded them as sort of difficult to come up with ideas for. Originally I had something more philosophic about mind and body going on in here, but it didn't work out too well so I decided to drop it.

Anyways, hope you all had a nice start of the year!
