Serena- I felt I was abandoning my account on this site, writing wise. I still read constantly, but Confessions of a Sasuke Fangirl is still in the works and I'm probably not going to post that till it's all finished. So, I whipped this up at 1 AM.
This is for my Itachi-is-in-fact-not-an-evil-son-of-a-bitch,-just-a-mislead-one movement.
Enjoy.
Disclaimer: I do not in fact own Naruto. I would be a very grateful little girl if I did.
The Unconquerable Truth
By: Serena
The end was coming and Itachi was ready. The preparation for this event had been drawn out, eight years in advance. And now he stood at the entrance of secrets hidden years before. Now the truth of Itachi's existence would be out for public display by the one person who would exploit it.
Sasuke knew this was coming, this fantasy forced into reality by blood and betrayal. Apparently, there was a single question stinging his tongue. Itachi knew which question he was yearning to ask
Why?
Why kill them?
Why betray everything you used to stand for?
Sasuke would ask the same juvenile questions he had inquired about since that night.
The end was coming and Itachi was ready. There were questions that needed to be answered and deaths that needed to be completed, for Itachi had long accepted this destination- kill or be killed by the only one he let live.
Hours later, both brothers feel the tug of exhaustion but only one is standing. The eldest blinks up at the one who use to worship him. Blood pools around the two of them.
Blood seems to be seeping into the ground, but somewhere in the back of his mind, Itachi realizes that that is not possible- the ground is concrete. Perhaps the blood is being absorbed back into his own body? Never had something like that happened before, however, and Itachi knew his nine lives were all dead or dying.
Perhaps Itachi's blood is seeping into Sasuke's body through the legs he kneels on, sword positioned at his elder brother's throat? Itachi is fine if that is so- if his blood came to mingle with Sasuke's and the two kindred spirits became one. It would be as though the two hearts were always meant to be together.
"I have a question." Sasuke's eyes glitter. The truth. What an amazing key to such a malevolent childhood. And for the victim of that childhood, it was satisfaction enough to last a lifetime- seemingly.
"A question? Ask." Itachi croaks. A smirk becomes more noticeable on Sasuke's face at witnessing such limitation in his eternal rival.
"Was it worth it?" Ah, the heart of the matter. Was the power worth the sacrifice?
A smile- a true grin breaks across Itachi's face as the final beats of his heart ring clear and powerful, prepared to give out and let this body die. Itachi is willing to let it happen: death holds such a wonderful charm.
"No."
