Disclaimer: I don't own Sweeney Todd.

Red Roses. These were the flowers that were always given to a young lady by the gentlemen who was courting her. Rightfully so, considering that red roses stand for love.

But quiet truthfully, Lucy was beginning to tire of them. Her mother had begun setting her up to court suitable men right after she had come of age. Lucy didn't blame her mother for that at all. It's every mothers dream to see her daughter be married- hopefully by someone rich. Lucy had enjoyed the mens company on all the dates- but more as casual friends; not romantic interest at all. There was only one thing that had bothered her about them.

They had all -at on point or another- given her a bouquet of red roses. The little buggers were beginning to take over the house! Her mother was beginning to run out of vases.Besides, she felt red roses were over used to begin with. They didn't suit her at all. That, and she'd much rather be friends with a gentlemen first then simply begin to court on a whim.

She supposes that's why she fell so quickly for Benjamin Barker.

Lucy could remember the first time meeting him. She had been sitting on a bench one evening after she broke it off with one potential gentlemen. He had been training to be a judge. He hadn't taken the rejection well, and marched of angrily- leaving her sitting alone on the bench.

"A lady shoudn't be alone so close to nightfall."

Those were his fist words to her. Lucy looked up into warm brown eyes and felt captivated.

"I suppose not." She vaguely heard herself reply. Those eyes are so gentle- she couldn't help but feel safe while looking in them.

She remembers how he introduced himself as Benjamin Barker, a barber beginning to set up shop on Fleet Street. As he escorted her back to her parents house, Lucy found herself caught up in conversation with him. This was the first time she had ever been so enthralled by someone else, and a man no less.

Some could say it was love at fist sight.

But Lucy knew better. It was more of friendship at first sight-despite how ridiculous that sounds. She has proof though, on the steps on her house, he'd picked a flower out the neighbors garden and gave it to her. For once it wasn't a red rose; it was a yellow daffodil. Daffodils stood for friendship, she recalled. Lucy couldn't keep the delighted grin off her face; finally something besides roses!

"To match your yellow hair." He murmured gently with a light blush on his face. Bless his soul! She could have hugged the man- that would have been improper though.

Since then, they saw each other off and on for the rest of the week. Every time she saw him he always had a yellow daffodil in hand for her. What started out as friendship quickly grew into a budding romance.

Falling for Benjamin Barker was't so bad.

End.
