Mama, take this badge off of me

I can't use it anymore.

It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see

I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Giles strummed along on his guitar while he sang. He had discovered open mike night at the Espresso Pump a few weeks ago and, since then, had been using it as a while to unwind after a long week of patrolling of dealing with living on a Hellmouth. Buffy was gone to stay with her father for the summer so he, Xander, and Willow had taken turns doing patrolling every night. Due to the Master's death, however, vampire and demon activity had been next to nothing. Some of the more aggravating events were when Xander and Willow stopped by his apartment. He adored those children, but some nights he needed grown-up time. He found it at the coffee shop.

Mama, put my guns in the ground

I can't shoot them anymore.

That long black cloud is comin' down

I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

He looked up into the audience and saw someone that he hadn't expected, Jenny Calender. She was looking directly at him and smiling. This had actually caused him to miss a guitar chord in the song, but he quickly recovered enough to finish the song without embarrassing himself. As soon as he got off the stage, though, she came up to him.

"Hello, Rupert," she said, beaming that beautiful smile at him.

"Yes…um…hello Miss Calender." He wished he didn't stutter so much when he was around her.

She laughed. "I've told you a thousand times to please call me Jenny." He loved the way she sounded when she laughed. "You sounded wonderful up there tonight."

He took off his glasses to wipe them. "Really?" He really only sang and played to unwind and relax.

"Yes. I had no idea that you played the guitar or sang. You just seem to be full of surprises." She looked down at her watch. "Damn. I've got to run. I've got a meeting with my Wiccan group. I'm sure that I'll see you around, though." She waved goodbye and was off before he could recover enough to say something else.
