Chapter 1 : Hiding

"Are you still ok to rehearse after school?" Gabriella said, coming up behind Kelsi who was sitting at the piano in the music room.

"I think so" she said, scrunching up her face, as she pulled her hair back into a knot.

"We can reschedule if you like" Gabriella said, noting Kelsi's invasive reaction.

"no, no. I'm good, I'm just wondering if maybe I should check with J first"

"Did you make plans?"

"Nothing special. He just likes to walk me home. Do you know what, don't worry, I'll be here".

"So I'll see you after the bell?" Gabriella said, collecting up her music sheets from a nearby table.

"See you later".

"I'm meeting Kelsi to rehearse one of the songs from the play" Gabriella said as she pulled books from her locker. "Here, let me take those" Troy said, grabbing them from her arms. "How about we go to dinner when you're back? I could pick you up about 6ish?"

"Sounds great" she said, wrapping one arm around his neck and giving him a kiss.

"Are we still on for shopping tomorrow Gab?" Sharpay said as she passed in the hallway.

"Uhuh" Gabriella said, smiling at Sharpay. "I'm just off to meet Kelsi to rehearse my solo"

"I'll call you later to arrange the details. Taylor too" Sharpay said, seeing Zeke down the corridor.

"Toodles" she said waving as she raced to catch up with Zeke.

"See you at 6?" Troy said before headed off.

"Indeed"

"Thanks for your help Kels. Maybe we should call it a day"

"Huh?"

"Maybe we should call it a day. It's sounding good and I think we've both had enough for one day". The reason Gabriella said this was because Kelsi had been clearly distracted and kept playing the notes wrong.

"You're ok aren't you Kelsi?" Gabriella said as Kelsi got up from the piano and pulled her bag onto her shoulder.

"Mhmm" she nodded, giving Gabriella a brief smile.

"You seemed sorta distracted" Gabriella said as they left the music room.

"It's been such a long week. Plus, we have so many assignments to think about, and there's the musical, I just need a rest. Lucky it's Friday" she added as an after thought.

"There you are" Jason said, coming up behind Kelsi.

"Sorry J! I was helping Gabby. I left you a message"

"Lets go. See you "he said to Gabriella as Kelsi walked off behind him down the corridor.

Although she couldn't be sure, Gabriella was sure she saw Jason grab Kelsi's arm and pull her down the corridor and out the door.

She made a mental note to keep an eye on Jason from now. Something about him just didn't see right.
