A/n: I have no excuse for the profound lateness of this chapter, but I will apologize for the recycled name... I liked it and it fit! It's possible this story will never end. I don't think this is something that can be called "complete" now, it has a life of it's own...

One Hundred and Thirteen

-Oh, Mother-

Vincent watched with worry from the chair in the corner of the room. His hand rested against his lips in thought, and he watched Yuffie murmur and grimace in her sleep. There had been nothing particularly troubling during the pregnancy, but now that her body was her own again he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. He felt like an idiot, he had simply assumed that she wanted to be a mother. Neither of them had ever asked the other if they really believed they were ready for this, and now it was too late.

A gentle knock sounded at the door, and before Vincent could move to answer a nurse slipped into the room. She clutched a bundle to her chest, and offered him a quiet apology as she moved slowly to place the infant back in his crib. Vincent stopped her and she gazed at him curiously as he took the child from her.

She assured him that the tiny prince had been fed and washed and would most likely sleep until morning, then she quietly left him alone with his family.

Vincent returned to his seat in the corner, clutching his son to his chest. The thought that he might someday be a father had never truly crossed his mind. Yuffie didn't exactly radiate maternal warmth, and he had simply assumed that having children was something they wouldn't get around to. It seemed ridiculous now, as he held their son to his chest. He couldn't imagine life without the tiny boy, and endless possibilities stretched out before them.

"Are you feeling better?" He asked softly. She snorted, as if it was the most ridiculous question she'd ever heard.

"I feel like I got ripped in half and sewn back together." She muttered darkly. Vincent wanted to laugh, but she was clearly upset.

"He needs a nameā€¦" He said gently. Yuffie glanced down at the child in his arms, then quickly looked away again and sighed.

"Call him whatever you want. I just want to be alone." Yuffie's voice cracked a little and Vincent felt a sharp pang go through his chest. He rubbed her back again before he got up and went to find Reeve.

"It's not an uncommon reaction to birth. It's unfortunate, but it's not uncommon." Reeve said gently, doing his best to be reassuring. He held the little prince out so he could get a good look at him and smiled.

"He's so adorable. Are you sure he's yours?" Reeve said jokingly. Vincent smiled as the tiny boy growled.

"Anyway, it's called postpartum depression, and it can be treated. It's perfectly normal. She's gone through a lot, physically and emotionally, and it might take her a while to find herself again. She'll be back to normal in no time, don't worry. I have already discussed this with her doctors and they see no reason to worry. Unfortunately, in the meantime, this little beast is going to require a lot of your time and energy." Reeve handed the boy back to him, and Vincent gazed down at his son a little sadly.

"He needs a name." Reeve reminded him. Vincent sighed.

"Yuffie is in no shape to-" He started defensively, but Reeve held up a hand to stop him.

"No more excuses, you're his father. Name him so I can introduce him to his people." Reeve crossed his arms and watched him expectantly. He forced back the amused grin at watching Vincent struggle uncomfortably.

"Here, I'll make it easy on you. Wutaians are suckers for sentimental names. Name him after your father, they'll love it." Reeve said flatly and Vincent stared at him.

"Grimoire?" He asked quietly. Reeve nodded.

"Perfect, fantastic. Alright, give him here, you go get cleaned up and eat something." Reeve took the tiny prince once again and hurried off down the hall.

Vincent smiled absently to himself. He had been so reluctant to take the job, now he took being Yuffie's advisor so seriously. He was glad Reeve had wanted to stay, he was enjoying the older man's company. It also helped that he was one of the only men on the planet Vincent truly trusted.
