Out over the lake near the rolling hills and the golden flames of the sun drifting towards the ground, Moony was sitting on a little bank, plastered to his books. His golden eyes traveled rapidly across the page as voices traveled from away. It was Christmas time and things were getting chilly, just that day Professor Flitwick had started conjuring things up for Christmas. The hall was half bedazzled with gold red and green banners, baubles and one or two trees. He and the others had helped Hagrid search them out, and talked with some Hufflepuffs in there Herbology class before heading up. Remus had stayed behind, saying he wanted to catch up on some reading.
"Really, before long your head will explode Moony!" Sirius exclaimed tramping up the slope to the castle entrance.
"Yeah, don't stay out to late mate; we don't want to have a furry incident." Prongs half heaved out, the snowdrifts getting thicker as he trudged up behind.
"Don't be silly guys, it's been a week," he said almost lightheartedly.
"You call us if anything happens Moony, well be right there." Wormtail said as he walked in Padfoot's wake.
Prongs and Padfoot harmoniously agreed. His 'furry' problem was something that worried them often. And he felt a warmness fill him as they each embraced him and walked inside, telling him not to be 'to late'.
And here at a snowy bank by the semi frozen lake, he stared at the great stone castle, drawing his eyes from his book. And as he sighed a sharp voice quipped up behind him, making Moony jump.
"So, have you finished reading the history of the world Moony?" Padfoot asked, he was leaning on a tree, and the slowly walked down the steep bank.
"Not quite" Remus said breathlessly ", couple more centuries love." He smirked as Padfoot plopped down beside him and tangled his arm around Remus's own.
"It's getting late love, come inside and have some fire whiskey" Sirius pulled Remus head into the crook of his neck and started to play with his hair.
"Hmm, that sounds nice..." And it did, however, Remus was not ready to go inside yet. He looked over the lake, and the back at Sirius.
"Sirius, why do you take care of me? Why do you all take care of me?" Remus asked this question, and Sirius stared at him as if he was mad, and then his face morphed into a simple smile. "Well, because we love you. That's why."
Remus pondered. "Is it really", he paused, "that simple?"
"Yes, not everything is as complicated as those spell books you read love", and he snaps the one in Remus hand shut. "Really, sometimes, you need to accept things the way they are, without explanation." And he pulls Remus up, and bends down to pick up the books.
"Where is your bag?"
"Oh over there, see it, by that rock."
"Blimey, how did it get over there?"
"Oh I moved a few times to follow the sunlight, how else could I read!"
"Hmm..." and as Sirius trudged back with the bag he flicked his wand and light spilled out of it.
"Oh...right." and Remus flushed. He started up the hill taking his bag and Sirius hand in his.
"You could have summoned my bag you know!" Remus said mockingly.
"And be bludgeoned by your stuff, no way!" Sirius kicked up some snow.
"Come on, let's hurry, its getting late!" And Remus brushed the snow out of there hair.
"Goodness," Sirius said", Geniuses!"
They laughed and walked up the hill talking about tomorrow's Quidittch match, and the Honeydukes trip.
