Notes: There have been quite a few sympathetic Nakuru fics out there recently. I'm not sure where this one came from, exactly. It's just a bit of random musing. Always bear in mind that this is a POV fic, and what the character believes isn't necessarily true. Although it's not necessarily wrong, either.
Title?
It's strange, in a way. He never expected either of us to fall in love with our creator, but both of us did. And both of us knew that he could never love us back in the same way, but we continued to love him all the same. Blindly. Helplessly. Hiding it, in our own special way.
What of Touya, you may ask? Yue's false form loved Touya. Why shouldn't mine? It's not like Touya is at all unlovable - who wouldn't fall in love with that secret smile, that subtle power, that intense love hidden by a teenager's insecurities?
But Yue got Touya's power, and with it his heart.
And I? I have my amusements. I'm not upset. That's simply not a part of my makeup, being unhappy.
Still, I wish he could love me back.
Master. Eriol.
I suppose it must have been Clow's fate, to always be loved but never to love himself. Even now, Eriol-sama is loved by Mizuki-san. But he doesn't love her back. She is a very dear friend to him, yes, but he is not in love with her. Eriol is in love with nobody and nothing except for the idea of love.
And I think, if Clow could not love Yue, who is beautiful as the moon, if about as distant; nor Mizuki-san, who is kind and gentle as moonlight on soft snow; what chance would I have?
It still amuses me that Eriol had expected Yue, perhaps even Yukito, to fall for Sakura-chan. Sweet as she is, there was no way he could love her after Clow. What Yue really needed was for his new master to be a friend. You see, some of us don't think love is the centre of the universe.
Perhaps part of Clow's fascination with love was because he had never felt it before.
Oh, he loved his children, certainly. He adored them and did his very best to ensure their happiness after he died, although in the case of the Moon Guardian he severely under-estimated Yue's devotion to him. Clow truly loved his creations. But not like that. Never like that.
And Eriol is not so different to Clow as he would like to believe.
