My first Merchant of Venice drabble, written on September 29th.
Antonio forced a smile on his face as he watched Bassanio reconcile with his wife, Portia. If he was truthful with himself, then he had not really cared if Portia were angry with Bassanio because he gave away her ring. He had, however, felt slightly guilty when he saw Bassanio try to get her to forgive him. For Bassanio's happiness, he was relieved that they had reconciled. For himself, on the other hand, he was saddened. Seeing Bassanio with Portia, he knew that he had now definitely lost his Bassanio. Not his friend but his dream. His dream of love.
