"Come on, Kels! Everyone in the whole entire school knows he's going to!" Gabriella exclaimed.
"That's a fact!" agreed Margaret.
"Gotta say it, dude...They're right. If anyone knows him, it's us. And I say he's gonna," Chad informed Troy.
"Yep," Troy said, as if it were the most obvious fact in the world.
With every comment, Kelsi grew even more red. Now, she thought her head would explode due to blushing so much. She covered her ears with her hands and shook her head back, trying as hard as she could to hide her growing smile.
"You guys! Stop embarressing me!"
"Jason likes Kelsi! Jason likes Kelsi!" Gabriella teased, playfully, not meaning anything mean by it at all. Chad, Margaret and Troy joined in. Kelsi was grinning. She tried to push away their words, but in her own mind, she was hoping beyond hope that they were right.
Taylor was frowning. "Don't be so immature," she said, but she too, was concealing a smile. "Though you're right," Taylor added under her breath.
"Hey! I heard that!" Kelsi yelled.
Rumor had it that Jason was going to ask Kelsi to Senior Prom. Everybody already had a date: Gabriella was going with Troy, Chad was going with Taylor, Margaret was going with "that cello guy" (as Kelsi liked to call him), and Sharpay was (shockingly) going with Zeke! Kelsi was hoping beyond hope that her big-time, long-time crush would ask her out. He didn't show any signs of anticipation towards this event, but everyone said he would. Kelsi was crossing her fingers...secretly, of course. Ever since that day he had discovered her, under her hat, she had just...sigh.
At lunch that afternoon, Kelsi's heart was jumping up and down on a trampoline. She had no classes with Jason in the morning, but in the afternoon, she had Biology and Advanced Geometry with him! Kelsi was very, very fidgety.
"Kelsi, calm down!" Gabriella soothed, taking Kelsi's hard in hers. "Everyone knows he's had a crush on you since forever...haven't you noticed the way he acted around you this summer? Has he ever kissed you?" Gabriella spoke softly.
"No!" Kelsi said, snapping her hand away. "And I hope he doesn't!"
Gabriella just smiled, knowledgably.
After school, Kelsi's mom was late. Kelsi still didn't have a car, though she wouldn't admit that the real reason was because she couldn't reach the gas pedal very well. Kelsi doodled on a piece of paper: "I heart Jason"...she quickly scratched that out, and looked left and right to make sure no one was looking.
"Hey," came a voice from behind her. Kelsi yelped and jumped. Jason (it's him!) plopped down next to her. Kelsi rested her hand on her heart.
"You scared me!" she said, her heart jumping even more excitedly, now.
"Yeah...I have to talk to you," Jason said very slowly and seriously. His eyes were so locked with hers that Kelsi hardly noticed him take her hand in his. "I wanted to know how you would feel if I did this." Jason leaned forward and gave her a three-second, very nice kiss.
Kelsi tried to mentally calm her crazy heart. Her voice came out more clear and calm than she expected it to.
"I would do this."
Kelsi leaned forward and gave a teensy bit more passionate kiss to Jason. He grinned.
"Well, I'm glad you'd do that. How would you feel if I asked you to go to Senior Prom with me?"
"I would feel very happy. And I would say yes."
Jason's grin grew wider. "Great. See you at Senior Prom." Then he got up and left.
Kelsi sighed contentedly.
Suddenly, Gabriella came walking toward her, out of nowhere. Kelsi was startled!
Gabriella leaned very close to Kelsi's ear...
"I told you so."
