A/N: He would. He so would.
His eyes were swollen.
His nose was swollen.
His cheeks were puffy.
He was coughing.
He was sneezing.
He was spluttering.
He was totally, irrevocably convinced that he was dying.
Kyouraku Shunsui latched onto Ukitake Jyuushirou's sleeve, his expression stricken.
'It's the end,' he gasped. 'My long life draws to a close… its time to say farewell to you… to my beloved Nanao-chan… to my sake… I see the light…'
(As his bed was covered in sunlight, this was something of a given.)
At last, in sheer confusion, Jyuushirou went to see Unohana, Shunsui's pleas echoing in his ears.
'Don't go! Don't leave me! I don't want to die alone!'
'What's the matter with him?' Jyuushirou asked anxiously.
Unohana beckoned him closer, whispering several words in his ears. At her explanation, Jyuushirou's face fell.
On re-entering the room, Shunsui clutched at his chest. 'I knew it,' he moaned. 'It's over, it's all over…'
Jyuushirou sighed and picked up his zanpakutou. 'It's a cold, Shunsui. You picked it up in the living world. Get some sleep, ne? I'll be back soon – visiting hours are over.
