It was her wedding day.

The most awaited day of her life.

So…

Why was she running?

Simple, the groom left.

Kaoru ran as fast as her legs could carry her through the dense forest. Her gown ripped in several places, her legs filled with small cuts. The harsh rain was pounding at her back, mingling at the tears that were falling from her red-rimmed sapphire eyes.

She just couldn't believe it.

The day she planned her whole life around… ruined… gone forever…

She never thought this would happen to her.

Never thought after all this time that Kenshin would leave her again, and this time, on her own wedding day.

She trusted him!!!

So how could he do this to her?

She couldn't believe how today had gone for the worst.

She woke up happy, excited…

She was happy at the fact that she would finally be able to marry the man she loved for so long.

He told her he loved her.

Was that all just a sick joke?

Was he just lying?

More importantly, did she know this would happen?

Did she just ignore the signs and convince herself that he was true?

Yes… she ignored the signs…

She ignored how he looked towards the roads with longing, how he seemed to always be off in his own world… how he disappeared for days on end…

Yes, she knew he wanted to be a wanderer again.

Was it her fault?

Was she selfish?

Did she force him to marry her?

No, but she was blinded by her love… by her trust…

And now all that was left was her, in her ruined wedding gown.

She let out a small cry of pain as she felt herself trip and fall, mud splattering her once pristine white gown. She didn't have the strength to run anymore. She just didn't have the strength to live without him by her side…

She just lay broken in the wilderness. The rain trying to wash her pain away… but she knew… it was futile.

If only she could just to close her eyes…

To let it all go…

Anguish filled sobs racked her body and filled the night air.

Her screams of denial and pain…

Her tears that never seemed to end…

The sound of her heart shattering, over and over again…

No one was there to see her pain, no one except the glowing white moon that seemed to mock her.

Her life…

Her dreams and plans…

Gone in an instant.

And to think all of these happened… just on her wedding day.
