"… Scott?"

"Uh. Yeah. Three's a crowd." He grimaced while looking over the carnival grounds.

"Not a big fan of the football team, eh?" A light laugh, almost forced, to cover her nervousness.

"That's one way of putting it." He looked over with a slight smile. "You?"

"Well…" She looked away a bit.

"Oh, don't hold back on my account." He shrugged readjusting his position.

"I have no idea what she sees in - -" The Ferris wheel stopped abruptly so the operator could load more passengers.

"Well. I assume he has SOME redeemable qualities…" He trailed off as the ride started up again. His eyes caught Jean's from across the midway.

"I'm not going to waste my time looking for them." She said matter-of-factly. He turned his head away. "Scott?"

"Hmmm?" A weak vocalized pause. Out of the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of Duncan's arm wrapping tighter around Jean.

"Everything okay?" She offered him a weak smile while he turned back.

"Yeah. It's just…" He shrugged slightly.

"You can tell me. It's alright."

"I don't know. I guess I just assumed that Jean and I would always be there for each other. Not like… 'together'. But. You know. She's my best friend and- -"

"'Johnny football hero?'" She punctuated the nickname with air quotes.

"Well. I've heard the stories."

She laughed lightly at that.

"I've told some of the stories." She winked at him. "Jean's smart. She'll figure him out soon enough.

He nodded softly while she reached over, placing a hand on his.

"Anyway, look." She waited until she assumed he was looking into her eyes. "I'm here for you… Okay?"

"Yeah." He smiled squeezing her hand. "Thanks Teryn."

"Anytime." She leaned into his shoulder. The wheel continued to turn.

His eyes again wandered off to the side.

"Oh man… Kurt you dummy…"
