Super Reality
"You want to what?"
Maxville's premier crime-fighting team just stared at the other visitor to the Mayor's office in disbelief.
"We want to create a new Reality TV show about your exploits as superheroes," explained the television director smoothly. "As you all know, Reality TV is one of the most popular forms of entertainment these days."
Ethan got out his PDA to double-check that fact and Layla just shook her head in disgust. Warren and Magenta rolled their eyes while Will tried to look politely interested.
Only Zach seemed enthusiastic about the idea. "Cool! So it would be like I'm a Super Villain, Get Me Out Of Here! sort of thing?"
"Uh, no. We were thinking more along the lines of Super-Survivor: Maxville." The director was getting going now. "The camera will follow you around while you go about saving the day, like Rescue 911, and then we're going to get a well-known super villain judge to adjudicate each of your contributions to the day-saving. He's going to be really nasty, because that's what he does best, but don't worry, that creates sympathy with the viewers, who then vote someone off the team. And so on until there's only one superhero left."
"What's next?" muttered Magenta. "MarySue Eye For The Hot Guy?"
Will cleared his throat. "You seem to be missing the whole point of what we do here. I mean, we're a crime-fighting team, we're not–"
"No problem," the director cut him off. "That's fine, we can work the whole 'teamwork' angle if you like. We'll split you up into pairs and you have to race all over the city and whichever team gets to the crisis last gets eliminated. And to make it more exciting, each of you has to face your greatest fear and…"
He trailed off as the heroes got up, and without even needing to trade glances to check they were in agreement, just walked out of the Mayor's office.
"Wait! You haven't heard about the mole yet…"
Warren paused at the door and turned back to deliver their parting shot.
"The tribe has spoken."
