Not a Child Anymore

I am not a child anymore.

I am truly aware of my surroundings.

I've had to grow up too much,

In too little time.

Wise beyond my years.

I have seen too much,

Heard too much,

Felt too much,

For me to take in at once.

War does things like that,

Has that effect on humans.

I've had to make too many decisions,

Fought too many battles,

Suffered too many defeats,

Losses, close calls.

But I still fight.

This is my choice, my destiny.

So please, don't shelter me,

Because I am not a child anymore.
