She awoke a smile on the princess of hearts face; it was her birthday today after all. She giggled, what a beautiful day in wonderland. What a wonderful day to visit the garden, the princess thought to herself. She picked the prettiest white dress she could find and raced out to the garden. Things had certainly changed since she had by named a princess, for she had the purest heart in all of wonderland. She smiled looking down at the lovely white roses and the pretty red one…wait a second. She froze as she examined the red rose in the white rose garden her nose twitched at the smell of it. It wasn't paint, no it couldn't be paint it was so much more disgusting then paint.

She looked down at the ground and let out a yelp in surprise, there was a trail of the red substance. She followed it, her curiosity getting the best of her. She turned to her surprise she found a man, no he was only a little older then her, a boy. Her eyes grew as she studied him, the red substance dripping from his black cloak. But he didn't screech or weep he just sat there his hands attached to his little blue instrument, she gazed at him. He didn't seem to be in pain, he seemed almost serene. She sat silently, waiting for him to react but he didn't. She crossed her arms edgily, but still she stayed silent.

"So this is where Nobodies go to die…" he looked up, staring into her eyes. "What a lovely place to die," he mused to himself. He then stood up using his instrument to hold his weight up. He smiled at her, a sweet loving smile. "What's wrong?" he asked her.

"You're dying," she said, noticing the tears that were falling from her face for the first time.

He laughed, still looking at her with his beautiful eyes. "I wouldn't worry about it," his voice filled with gentle kindness. He leaned up against the flower bush, turning another patch of white roses red. He grabbed his instrument then began to play such a beautiful sound that for the moment she forgot about his pain.

"I can't feel it anyways," he whispered.

"Whatever do you mean?"

He motioned her over to her, she cautiously walked over to him—her heart racing. He grabbed her hand tenderly, and place it to where his heart should have been—nothing. She gasped, wide eyed, jumping away from him.

"Y-you're a heartless!"

He scowled, about to argue—but he stopped, an amused smile on his face. "I suppose, that's right."

She knew she should be afraid of him, but she felt oddly safe with him.

"What's your name?" she asked.

"Demyx."

"How particular!" she giggled. "I'm Alice."

" Alice may I ask a favor?"

She hesitated. "What?"

He pulled her arm in, causing her to fall forward straight into him—saving her with a kiss. She didn't get to enjoy it for very long, his cold lips left hers as he faded into the darkness.

Happy birthday to me.

It's not very happy when someone dies on your birthday, she wander out of the garden with her red and white dress – she didn't feel much like celebrating today.
