Disclaimer: I don't own Death Note.
---
The human whose name is written in this note shall die.
The very first rule of the Death Note and it's very easy to understand but sometimes, an idiot will always be an idiot.
Matsuda Tota was walking home from work one day. He was humming the tune of his favourite song when suddenly a black notebook fell from the sky. Surprised, he cowered in fear and hid behind the bushes. Realizing it was only a notebook, clearly not deadly - or so he thought - he sighed, jumped out of the bushes and picked it up.
"Death Note … What kind of a joke is this now?" He opened the note to see a bunch of rules. "The human whose name is written in this note shall die. This is a freaky notebook." He glanced at it. "But, it sure would be useful."
He went home and examined the note more carefully. He smiled and said, "Kids these days … Always pulling pranks on one another." He wrote in the very first page of the notebook.
This notebook belongs to:
Matsuda Tota
He smiled again and headed for the kitchen, planning to eat spaghetti.
The next day his friend, Mogi, came by because Matsuda was late and that was unusual. Matsuda would always be the earliest and most eager to work.
"Matsuda?" He knocked on the door, no answer. He knocked again and again and there was still no answer. He sighed and took out the spare key Matsuda gave him. He walked in and saw his friend on the kitchen floor.
"Oi, Matsuda!" He checked his pulse but he couldn't find it. His friend died. He rushed to the phone to call the chief, completely ignoring the black notebook on the desk.
When the police took Matsuda's body away, the shinigami who owned the Death Note, found it at last.
"Hmmm, let me see who found my notebook." she said. "No one's here…" She opened the notebook, surprised to see a name there. She frowned; it doesn't take a detective to figure out what happened. An idiot found the notebook and thought this was all a prank. So he thought that it was completely safe to write his own name in it.
She sighed, ripped off the page where Matsuda had written his own name, burned it and said, "Another idiot found my notebook, great." She flipped the pages until she found the last page she wrote the rules in. "I can't believe I went through all the trouble writing every single rule in this note. I also can't believe how many idiots live in this world." She wrote one last rule and left the notebook on the table.
The rule was this:
If you are an idiot, burn this notebook now or you will suffer a major consequence.
Flying back to the Shinigami realm, she regretted the fact that she hadn't written the rule on the front cover.
