I Need You

By DaydreamerGal

Dawn's always had the biggest crush on Paul. But now she can't take it. She never sees him and all she can do is wait for Paul to show up to battle Ash every once in a blue moon. She's lost her ambition to enter pokemon contests, and all she does is mope around. Although the weather was perfect, the flowers were fragrant, and everything was as beautiful as could be, she just wasn't in the mood to do anything. She just sat on a rock staring at the grass.

"What's happening to Dawn?" Ash asked Brock.

"I think she's lovesick," Brock sighed.

"Why? Who does she miss?"

"I think it's your rival, Paul."

"Really? She doesn't need him! He's just a big, stuck-up jerk!" Ash's blood was boiling just thinking about Paul. "But," He hated seeing Dawn like this. "We've got to do something!"

In the forest fifteen minutes later…

"Paul!" Ash called. "We know you're in here! I want a battle!"

No answer.

"Come on out Paul! We need your help!"

A rustle of leaves from a bush came. Ash turned around to see if it was Paul. He looked in the bush but all he saw was a small Shinx.

"Shi-Shinx!" It called.

Ash heaved a sigh. This forest was as huge as an ocean. Paul could be anywhere.

'Anywhere… That's it!' He thought. "Come on out, Staravia!"

"Star-Star-Staravia!"

"Hey, Staravia, I need you to look for Paul for me."

"Staravia?" It questioned, as if saying, 'Why? What did he do to you?'

"Nothing, I just need you to get him for me."

"Staravia," It sighed.

"Good, now go find him!" Ash pointed to the sea of trees. "I'll be at camp."

The Staravia flew away.

Ash slowly walked back to where they were staying.

Back at the campsite ten minutes later…

Dawn sighed really loud. She couldn't take it. 'I might as well face the facts. I'm never going to see him again.'

"Staravia!" A pokemon called out. Dawn looked up to find Ash's Staravia flying to the campsite and a purple haired trainer following it calmly.

"Paul, is that really… Paul!" Dawn cried as she ran to the trainer. She threw her arms around the boy and said, "I thought I'd never see you again!"

"What?" He yelled. "Get off of me!" Paul shoved Dawn off of him.

Tears ran off of Dawn's eyes as he said that.

"What?"

"Wait, I didn't mean it like that… Please don't cry…" He wiped a silver tear off of Dawn's cheek.

"Please don't cry," He said again.

(Five years ago)

"Mom, please stop crying. You know it hurt's me and Dad…"

She just sobbed harder.

"Stop!" The little boy cried as he ran out of the house. He ran faster and faster, didn't know where he was going, but just kept going faster. He had to get away from his depressed mother…

A silver, crystal-like tear formed in his right eye, and fell to the ground as he ran away… far, far away…Anywhere but there…

Present time

"Please don't cry," He repeated.

Dawn sniffed and wiped a couple more tears off of her cheek and said, "Thanks…"

They slowed down, Dawn leaning in to Paul, pressed their lips to the other, and wrapped their arms around his neck and her waist. Time seemed to stop as the two were in the other's arms, and it felt like they were flying as a tear formed in Ash's eyes as he said quietly, almost not at all, "So sweet…"
