Walk the Line

A/N: Yes, I know I should be working on Guardian Canine... But this idea has been bothering me for a while lately and I finally got it down.

Note: I've left it up to your imagination how Midna got back to the world of Light, where they are, and what time of day it is. Now, read and review. Pretty please?

Midna reluctantly tried to wiggle out of Link's warm embrace, her body scolding her as she moved away from the passionate kiss that had consumed both of them. He held her close to him, and she soon gave up her struggle to move away. She instead tried to persuade him to let her go.

"Link… We have to stop this. You know the old saying… Light and Shadow don't mix." Link smirked with a devilish glint in his eyes as he gently pulled her closer.

"Oh, but no one ever sent anything about Twilight, did they?" She was momentarily confused by this statement.

"But the Twilis are the shadows, Link!" She said unhappily, stifling the urge to lose herself in his warm embrace. He shook his head.

"I'm not talking about the Twilis. I'm talking about the Twilights." Seeing her confused frown, he elaborated.

"The Twilis are a race that was banished to shadows a long time ago. Twilights, however… Are different. I've been thinking about it."

"Really? I'm surprised you didn't hurt yourself." She couldn't resist saying. His amused, wicked smile made her heart race.

"Imp." He said simply, and then claimed her lips in another kiss that had her knees trembling and her heart beating a rhythm to her flip-flopping stomach. She clung to him for support when he finally released her, every fiber in her being crying out with want.

"As I was saying…" He said with a pointed smile, fully aware of the effect he had on her, "Twilights and Twilis are completely different. Twilights are not a race… They are individuals who have been partially turned towards their opposite." She forced her mind around that idea, while at the same time trying to force herself to ignore the warmth flooding from his body.

"For example… You were born to be one with Shadow. But your time in the realm of Light, Zelda's sacrifice, and the adventures we went through together turned a part of you towards the light." He gently lifted a calloused hand to stroke her cheek. Her entire body trembled at the gentle contact.

"I, on the other hand, was born to Light. But a part of me has been turned to the darkness by the things that I have seen and the beast that I've become."

"You're not a-"

"As much as you deny it, yes I am Midna. Well, a part of me is." That cold, feral glint came to his eyes before being replaced by the warm sapphire eyes of the Link she knew so well. He tipped his head forward and rested it against hers. Her breath caught suddenly, and she coiled her arms around his neck.

"We walk a fine line between light and dark… And since very few Twilights exist, normal rules don't apply to us." He said with a wicked smirk. "Therefore… None but the goddesses themselves can stop this. And for that matter, they really don't mind… They are firm believers in love." She smiled hesitantly.

"In other words, stop fighting." His lips claimed hers and she gave herself up to his warmth, to the small part of light within her… And to the love that flowed between them both.
