Quick Author's Notes:A quick TamakixHaruhi drabble. Surprisingly inspired by an episode of Futurama—"Hell is Other Robots". It was the solid gold violin that struck me, and bam!

:D

edit: fixed a typo someone on livejournal pointed out.

Violins

Kyouya wasn't a musical person. Tamaki knew only how to play the piano, albeit very skillfully. The twins and Mori and Hunny have all taken the same classical music and jazz band classes, but they don't quite remember all the songs they've learned.

Tamaki wanted to know about Haruhi.

"Haruhi-chan! Do you play any instruments?"

Haruhi sighed, setting her small pink-patterned teacup down on its little plate and reaching for a biscuit, before turning to Tamaki with that clear, defiant expression on her face.

"I don't understand why you would bring this up," she said.

Tamaki wasn't fazed (of course). He replied cheerily, "Why, I just want to know my daughter! I wish for us to find some common ground, as they say, and since I play piano I was hoping that you'd play an instrument too! Perhaps we could even engage in a duet!"

His arms waved about excitedly and dramatically, making little pieces of frosting fly off the forgotten cupcake in his hand. Haruhi ignored his little speech and reached for the dull knife next to her plate. Coolly indifferent to the now mortified expression on Tamaki's face, she started buttering her biscuit. Tamaki started another rant, and Haruhi slipped into warm, soft biscuit heaven.

After a while, Tamaki calmed down, moodily sipping his spearmint tea. Haruhi preferred iced tea, the kind you bought in packets and mixed up with water. But that was commoner's tea, and only the finest tea was to be served in Tamaki's place of living.

"I used to play the violin," Haruhi ventured quietly. "I only learned one song, though; my father had to quit paying for my lessons soon after. I had a lovely time, though."

Tamaki's eyes sparkled and he instantly glomped her.

"Oh, Haruhi! That look in your eyes, the subtle way you tilt your chin down as you reveal your precious, painful moments - and the softly glinting hope that lit up your face! It was wonderful!" He buried his head in her neck, still shouting words of praise.

Haruhi grinned a little and awkwardly wrapped her arms around Tamaki's back.

"Tamaki-senpai. Would you like to hear me?"
