Tears of the Immortal

2/2/o7 fri. TGIF!

He cried under the stars, water spilling from the clouds in a torrent and pelting the dry, desert ground with heavy droplets. A swirl of dust would erupt from the cracks each time a fallen tear would manage to hit the depths of the erosion. Somewhere in the background, thunder rumbled in an almost comforting purr, while lightening cracked with the intensity rivaled by God's anger. Droplets streaked down his hair smoothly, running quickly down the thick ivory strands like miniature rivers.

He cried. And it rained.

She watched him through silted eyes, because he didn't know she was awake. He liked to cry in solitude while she wished she could take it all away from him. She lay curled up on her side (previously curled up against /his/ side), protected from the storm by the curve of a jutted cliff just above her. Her scythe and his belongings were pushed up against the base of the cliff, also being kept dry by the natural shelter. As for Kiki, his back was pressed to her own as he lay in ball – his tail covering the tip of his nose as he slept, snoring lightly to himself.

She watched as tears of pain and anguish rolled down his pale cheeks, lightening streaking across the dark purple sky. She felt her eyes blur with her own tears as she witnessed his suffering. How long had he needed someone to hold him and tell him it would be alright? How long had he gone without the warmth of kindness from a friend? How long had he been keeping this misery inside, without anyone to talk to?

How long would he keep these secrets from her…?

Machika cried now, because if she wasn't the one he could confide in, then she was of no use to him. She turned her face into the crook of her arm and whimpered.

If only she could be the one he needed. Be the one he wanted… If only…

She murmured his name, but the word was lost among the clapping of thunder in the distance.

"Rain…"
