Some days she hates him more that any other human being on earth.

The way he doesn't take anything seriously

His immaturity.

The way he teases her, about what she eats, her sex life, other random stupid things.

And when he is at a loss for what to say to annoy her, he throws small objects at her.

Or makes stupid noises.

Or sends IMs to her constantly…

Sometimes the frustration is too much,

And she has to mentally count backwards from ten to stop herself shooting him.

And as she dodges a paperclip, something from long ago comes into her head.

How when she whined to her older sisters about the boys that annoyed her, they told her they did it because they liked her.

Not the same. She reassures herself.

Some days she loves him, more than he would ever know.

She loves the way he puts his head a fraction to the side when he speaks to her.

How he can always make her laugh (usually at something meaningless).

The way he'll give her a look and she'll feel all…light inside. Excited, like a child approaching a distant fairground.

Some days, she'll wake up in the morning and have some random married guy in the bed next to her,

And in the few minutes before the guy wakes up and slinks out,

She wonders;

What it would be like, if it was Tony?

Some days he hates her.

Hates her snarkiness.

How she can't ever just be nice to him.

Once he tried to "be good"

Just to see if she would notice.

She did, and he overheard her talking to McGee,

Saying he was probably plotting something.

That one had hurt.

He knows he could never have her.

That she would never fall for him.

But a man can dream.

Some days he loves her.

Loves how they can almost read each others thoughts,

but at the same time he can never quite know exactly what goes on inside her head.

How he can read her and know what she's about to do,

But at the same time he can never entirely predict her at all.

He loves how she looks when she's annoyed at him,

How she looks when she stands up to Gibbs,

And how she looks when she smiles.

Kate's not like the other women.

She's different.

She's special.

He sometimes wonders, what it would be like,

If there was no Rule 12 standing in their way.

Would things be different?

But then again...rules are made to be broken.
