Note: Since I've had a couple people inquire-this story is NOT dead.

Okay. Now that's dealt with...actually, this specific version of the story is not going to be updated. I'm currently in the middle of working on a major rewrite, and will likely repost the story entirely once I reach a point I'm satisfied with. It isn't just a minor editing-I went back and completely rewatched all the major plot episodes, all the movies, as well as the new Magic Kaito series, so I'll be drawing from all of them for the remake. In this endeavor I discovered some of my original plans wouldn't work with the canon timeline, so the journey will be quite a bit different~ Hopefully in a fun way though!

Anyway, yeah. Just updating anyone who is interested on the state of the fic. What I have currently written-most of it from scratch-is 9 complete chapters and the beginning of a 10th totaling about 50,000 words. And Ai hasn't even defected yet, much less the whole bit with Wolf happening ;D

Since I'm pretty sure there's a rule against posting JUST an author's note chapter, here's a snippet from the end of the new chapter 1. In it you can see one of the major differences in the new fic! Just a tiny little thing, and it changes a whoooole lot. Hope I'll see you around in the future!

"Ne, aniki." Vodka broke the silence, disrupting the soothing hum of the Porsche's engine, idling at the exit to Tropical Land's parking garage, "How are we going to report this? We don't have a name."

Gin shrugged, taking one hand off the wheel to reach into his coat. He tossed the laminated card at Vodka carelessly. "Just a nobody."

The student ID stared up at Vodka once he managed to catch it. "Damn aniki. I didn't even notice."

Name. School district. Picture. More than enough to submit the report satisfactorily, as well as set up light surveillance to make…sure that they hadn't missed.

Not that they would have, Gin had seen some of the videos from the trials. Such a painful looking way to die. Almost as if they'd been boiled alive. Sherry had outdone herself. He was grudgingly impressed.

The light turned green, Gin coaxed the classic car into the main road, leaving the bright lights of Tropical Land behind them.

Pity it hadn't been the detective brat like he'd thought. Watching him work today… If it hadn't been for the Organization's regulations, he might have considered some… proactive elimination. Random deaths were so messy…

Ah well. Thoughts for another day. Without a thread of evidence to follow, it didn't matter how good a detective was. They were just as blind in the dark.
