Yup, written for ficvariations (details in profile). I'm not too sure I like the ending very much, I find writing beginnings much easier S
She was a creature of the night. She lived for the time when the sun went down and she could escape. Night after night after night she walked out in the pitch dark, treading as light as an elf out to the edge of the cliff where she would simply exist.
It didn't matter that she was standing hundreds of feet above salty seas crashing on sharp rocks, it didn't matter that one stronger gust of the wind that blew her black hair out and the skirt of her dress up to her knees could blow her over the edge down to the rocks. It didn't matter that it wasn't normal to embrace the darkness in such a way, either. All that mattered to Lothiriel, princess of Dol Amroth, was the peace and harmony that existed between the world and the dark but could never be recreated while the sun shone.
Clouds had obscured the stars to the east for days, and now the moon was hidden too. Lothiriel couldn't see the infinite blackness of the sky anymore, but she knew it was there just out of reach. Then, suddenly, the darkness was broken.
A bright green column of swirling light pierced the sky to the east, lighting up the world in an eerie imitation of the hidden moon. The wind picked up suddenly, whirling around and Lothiriel had to drop to her knees to stop herself from being blown from the cliff. There was something ominous, no, plain evil about that green light; it was more foul and detestable than any sunrise where light would break through in its eternal with darkness and disturb Lothiriel's meditation.
Lothiriel crawled back towards the palace, knowing that her black dress would show no signs of her nocturnal activities. But no one would have noticed anyway; everyone in Dol Amroth and probably the whole of Gondor had rushed outside when the night was illuminated green and the wind howled around them. It was time for the battle between light and dark.
