Why me?

By Sophia Moon

The little fire demon rested on his lover. Deep breaths, soft smiles. The signs of lovemaking that ended just minutes before. But also a knotted brow.

"What are you thinking, Hiei?" Kurama informed friendly. He stroked Hiei's back. His hand big, but soft and assuring.

"Not much," The fire demon hummed.

"A lot. Want to talk about it?" Kurama knew better than to coax Hiei into answering him. His lover would talk if and when he felt like it. Being with his adorable but sometimes slightly gruff lover for several years taught him at least that much. He accepted his mate for what he was. Including his craving for what he still called sweet snow, his tendency to rather climb through the window then to simply walk through the front door and his I'm-not-going-to-be-a-nice-guy-today moods.

"They talk," Hiei simply stated.

"Ningen or demons?"

"Both."

Kurama had a pretty clear idea of what his lover was referring to, but he choose to let the fire demon tell him in his own words. After all, Hiei was more than capable make his own observations. He may not have been the most talkative person in any of the three worlds, but that didn't make him any less aware of his surroundings. For if that had been the case, he simply wouldn't have last long enough to meet the fox. Kuruma shuddered at the idea and instinctive pulled his youkai closer. Of course he would have found other lovers, plenty of them, but none of them would have been a certain fire demon born out of a icemaiden.

"Why did you choose me?" came the question. Before Kurama could answer, Hiei continued. "Look at us, fox. We both are males. You are a beautiful, both as a ningen and as a youko. I'm a forbidden child. Why did you choose me?"

The youko's tail moved softly against the still naked ass of the firedemon. It was more of a friendly, reassuring gesture than that the fox seemed interested in another round of lovemaking. Still, Hiei growled a bit to make sure that Kurama understood he could not be tempted.

And why didn't Kurama just answer his question? "Why did you choose me?" He insisted, although he wasn't sure anymore he wanted to hear the answer. Because, what would he do if the answer was: out of pity? Or: because I like having a nice little toy before I settle down with a wife and have children with her?

"I could tell you that I choose you because you are a brave, skilled fighter. But several of my friends are brave, skilled fighters. And I'm not bedding them. I could tell you that I choose you because you are beautiful. But more than one of my friends, both male and female, are beautiful. And I'm not bedding them."

"If the worlds are so full of wonderful beings, why not choose them?" Hiei managed to keep his voice steady. But only just.

"That would be a possibility. " Kurama smiled. "So many possibilities."

"So, why me?"

"Why not? It doesn't matter if there are even better looking creatures or friendlier ones or wiser ones. Because I am sure there are. I am not interested in them. I have no idea if we are meant to be or just accidental passer-bys. Just one thing matters. I have chosen you and you have chosen me. And that's that." Kurama wrapped both his arms around a silent firedemon.

Hiei sighed. "And that's that?"

Kurama grinned mischievously "Well, there is one more thing..."

Hiei looked up. "Tell me, fox."

"Your perky little butt. If anything, I love you for your tasty butt." The youko wagged his tail.

Hiei almost smiled. "Hn. Stupid fox."
