Catherine poured a cup of warm water on her daughter's head, wetting what little hair she possessed. Jordan splashed and giggled in the bubbly bathwater as she looked up to her mother. Catherine sat in the tub with her, her strawberry blonde hair slicked back.
"I think we're all clean," Catherine said twisting the water out of their washcloths before hanging it on the side of the tub. She picked up all of the toys that were scattered in the water and put them in the corners of the bathtub walls. She smirked thinking of Lindsey's complaints about the abundance of baby items that were taking over her life within the past few months.
She carefully stood up, with Jordan in her arms, stepping onto the shaggy floor rug. She wrapped Jordan in her pink baby towel with a cozy hood, before she wrapped herself in her own towel. She picked up their clothes and went to Jordan's nursery.
Catherine watched her baby daughter yawn as she dressed her for bed. She knew that soon her bright blue eyes would grow heavy and she would fight her sleep, as her inherited curiosity wanted to observe everything around her. She cradled Jordan in her arms, pacing the floor of her bedroom until she fell soundly asleep.
"Good night baby," she said turning on the mobile above Jordan's head followed the baby monitor that was in the corner of her crib.
She assumed her husband was cleaning up after dinner or feeding his bugs in the basement since their bedroom was dark and empty. She sighed, exhausted, slipping into a pair of boy shorts and a yellow tank top before climbing into her the empty bed.
Gil stumbled into their bedroom, seeing his wife was soundly asleep. Her hand rested on his side of the bed as if she were waiting for him. He quietly closed the door and turned off the lights, stripped down to his boxers and took his spot beside her. Not quite ready to sleep, he grabbed the remote and turned on the television.
Catherine's eyes snapped open when the volume blasted through their bedroom. A soft groan bounced off her pillow.
"Sorry," Gil apologized.
Catherine sighed in response and snuggled up to her husband. Gil wrapped his arm around her and turned to the Discovery Channel.
"No Discovery," Catherine said with her eyes closed just as he landed on the channel. Gil pursed his lips and scanned the guide.
"Are you enjoying your night off?" Gil asked her.
"The real fun hasn't even begun yet," she replied playing with the top of his boxers.
"What's that?" he asked.
"Turn off the TV and I'll show you," she said. Gil followed her command and Catherine immediately found his lips with the help of the moonlight that was shining through the curtains of their bedroom.

"You know what I heard last night?" Lindsay asked, chewing on a piece of bacon.
"What?" Catherine asked, shifting her eyes to Gil.
"Silence. No crying baby," she replied as Gil looked at Catherine from the corner of his eye.
"Jordan slept all through the night." Catherine turned her attention back to Jordan who had dumped oatmeal on her head.
"For a second there you guys thought I was going to say that I heard you two," Lindsay said. Both her parents looked up at her, "I did. Please stop. It damages the memory part of my brain."
"Limbic system," Gil said correcting her.
"Whatever, it's gross."
They both laughed.
"I am going to Kimberly's house," she replied gathering her dishes.
"Call me when you get there," Catherine yelled after her.
"I always do. See ya!"
"Looks like it's just you, me and Daddy," Catherine said scooping some oatmeal into her mouth. "Say, 'Daddy, what do you want to do today?'" Jordan directed her attention to the person she knew Daddy to be.
"Daddy wants to go to Circus Circus and then go to the zoo," he responded to his wife and the wide-eyed baby.
"Good plan?" she asked Jordan who babbled back. "Little Ms. Grissom says the plan is a go. Come on baby. Let's go get cleaned up and dressed."
"Me or Jordan?"
"Jordan. I'll get you next time." Catherine sent him a wink.
"Hey! You left me to clean the kitchen… again!" he yelled, but Catherine was already upstairs.

"See the bear Jordan? That's the baby bear." Catherine held Jordan on her hip. Her small hands and nose plastered on the glass that separated them from the family of bears on the other side.
"Baaahhhhbyyya," Jordan said banging on the glass.
"You're going to scare them, sweetie. Let's go sit down and wait for Daddy." Catherine took a seat on the bench across from the bear display. Gil returned a few minutes later holding two bottles of water.
"Thanks, honey," Catherine said ready to cool off from the Vegas sun.
"Did you see the bears?" Gil asked lifting Jordan out of her stroller. "Look." Gil walked over to the glass that held the small community of bears on the other side.
Jordan banged on the glass once again; this time scaring one of the cubs.
"Jordan, you scared the cubs." Jordan stuck her finger in her mouth and poked the glass. Gil smiled and kissed her on the forehead.
"I told her," Catherine said with a smirk. "Ready to move on?" Catherine asked, pulling up beside them.
"I think so."
Catherine pushed the empty stroller alongside Gil who was still holding Jordan. "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!" Gil gave Jordan a little bounce after he said it, reciting it again. Jordan clapped her little hands together and smiled, showing off her two small front teeth.
Catherine grinned. She was the luckiest woman alive. Her wonderful husband was holding their beautiful baby girl and they had another growing up. If anyone had told her a year and a half ago that this would be her life, she would have laughed, but here she was. The man of her dreams and her perfect family.
"What?" Gil asked when he noticed her looking at them with a wild grin on her face.
"Nothing. I'm just the luckiest woman alive." She smiled and Gil kissed her softly. She sighed knowing the feeling would never get old.
"You are." Gil winked at her. They continued to walk through the zoo for a little while until Jordan began to cry.
"I think she's hungry. What time is it?" Catherine asked taking her from Gil.
He glanced at his watch, "One thirty. We've been out here since ten."
"Yeah. It's lunchtime… I know, I know. You're hungry." Catherine bounced Jordan in her arms and rubbed her back. Gil took the stroller and they made their way to the car.

"She's asleep." Catherine sighed and flopped on the couch, resting her head on her husband's shoulder. Gil kissed her forehead. "What are you watching?"
"Baseball," he replied.
"Hmm…" Catherine closed her eyes. "I don't want to go back to work tonight," she groaned.
"Neither do." It had been a while since Gil had wished he was anywhere except looking down a microscope or solving a crossword puzzle in the stillness of his apartment.
"You know what we should do before Jordan wakes up?" Catherine asked breaking the comfortable silence.
"What?"
Catherine kissed Gil's neck.
"Oh, that," he replied smirking. Catherine laughed against his skin, kissing her way to his lips. When their lips touched she wrapped her arms around his neck and lay back on the couch, taking him with her, so he hovered over her.
She giggled when his hand tickled her waist and slipped under her shirt. She wrapped her legs around his waist. They both laughed when the TV started to flip thorough the channels.
"It's under my butt," she whispered. Gil snaked his hand between her butt and the couch grabbing the remote.
"Problem solved," he said before connecting their lips again.
"Oh, jeez. You two have a room and it has a bed in it," Lindsey said standing from across the living room.
They both jumped, turning to look at the teenager. "We were getting to that part," Catherine muttered. Gil pulled them both into the upright position that Lindsey would approve of.
"Whatever…" Lindsey tilted her head and smiled sweetly at Gil. "Daddy?"
"How much?" Gil asked pulling out his wallet.
"I don't need money. I wanted to ask you something though."
"Again… no, you cannot get drunk with your mom," he said receiving a slap on the arm from Catherine.
"Nooo. Well… joshjeemanaskedmeouttothemoviesandjreallywanttogo. Dad please," she said in one breath, clasping her hands together and resting them under her chin.
"What?" Gil asked. Lindsey sat on her knees in front of Gil.
"She wants to go to the movies with a boy named Josh Leeman," Catherine translated.
"No," Gil said without a beat.
"Dad, come on. I'm 15. I'll be 16 in 112 days." She wrapped her arms around Gil's leg.
"No. That's it. You're not going."
Lindsey looked at her mother for help and she shrugged her shoulders. Catherine understood his choice. She knew what she was doing at 15, and what was happening to young girls when she attended their autopsy and told their parents what had happened to them.
"Why not?" she pouted.
"You're only fifteen and if anything happens to you I'll have to kill someone. I can't be a husband and father from prison." Gil got up and headed to the kitchen.
"Thanks for helping me out, Mother," she said once he was out of earshot.
"Lindsey, I'll talk to him and maybe we can sit and talk about this. He was always anxious about the last guy you liked."
"I know. When will he understand that boys are a must have in a girls life. Unless he wants my date to be named Jessica who has gorgeous brown hair. Plus, I'm not a baby any more."
"We would love you either way, and he would still be your crazy old dad." They both laughed as she stroked the young girl's head. "But you're right; you're not a baby anymore. How about I talk to him and you can babysit Jordan for us? Deal?"
Lindsey thought for a moment. It was possibly the only way that she was going to go out with Josh. "Deal." She shook her mother's hand.
Catherine got up and followed Gil's trail into the kitchen.
