I honestly can't remember the last time I wrote anything fanfiction related. In short, I went to college, obtained a degree, had a baby, got married, and now I find myself with some time and I feel bad for leaving this hanging so long. I also feel embarrassed because this isn't up to my new standards of writing. I will attempt to get this back on track and see if I can improve it, both content and grammar wise. Thank you for those who read and reviewed it and if you're still reading this now, thanks for the dedication.

"So, you came back," Sabrina said as they drove through the deserted city.

"Yeah," Danni said awkwardly. She knew Sabrina wanted to ask why, but didn't want to seem rude. "I saw Matt," she began slowly. "He raped me."

"What!?" Sabrina exclaimed. "Danni I-"

"Stop," Danni said, cutting her off. "I don't want to hear it. I don't want to talk about. I just want to forget and move on."

"Why come back here then?"

"Because I had the life I thought I wanted in New York before all of that happened and I don't know if I can face going back to it," Danni said sadly.

"I heard the record," Sabrina put in. "It was good. Sad, but good."

"I hated it," Danni replied. "I acted otherwise, but I hated it."

"And your boyfriend?"

"So you heard about that," Danni said, running a hand nervously through her long dark hair.

"Who hasn't?" Sabrina laughed uneasily.

"He's great. He always was. I just…I can't do it anymore. He deserves better."

"You always say that, Danni, but I've never believed it. Don't sell yourself short," Sabrina said sincerely.

"Too late, I guess."

"How long are you in town for?" Sabrina asked, changing the subject.

"No plans. I don't plan ahead, you know that," Danni said with a small smile.

"Yes, I remember that well," Sabrina laughed. "You're welcome to stay with me for as long as you need. It's nice to have you back."

Danni thanked her old friend graciously as they pulled up to the apartment. It was already late, so without much conversation Danni settled herself on the couch for the night, while Sabrina went to her bedroom. She looked at her cell phone and felt a pang of sadness that there was nothing from Shawn. She didn't expect there to be. She had all but said she didn't want him around anymore. She went to her messages and drafted one to Shawn. Home safe. Miss you. She typed out. She sighed and immediately erased the message. He didn't care.

Danni spent a good week and a half sulking around Sabrina's apartment and in rare instances, venturing out into the city she used to live in. Very little had changed since she had last been here and for that she was glad. It was familiar. It felt like home again. One Saturday, three weeks after she had arrived, Danni found herself wandering around the downtown farmer's market. She stopped at a stall selling flowers and smiled as she remembered all the times Shawn had shown up holding a bouquet of flowers. No one had ever given her flowers before. She picked a few of the flowers and bought them for the apartment. They would brighten up the place.

"You look well," a voice said from behind her. Danni recognized the voice at once.

"New York never suited me," Danni replied, turning around. "It's nice to see you again, Shawn."

"Is it?" Shawn asked, shoving his hands into his jean pockets.

Danni looked down at the ground. "Yes, it is," she replied, looking back up at him. He seemed to stand out in the crowd of people meandering around the market.

"How have you been getting on?" Shawn asked, unsure of what else to say.

"Fine," Danni said quickly. "I'm staying with a friend nearby."

"Yeah, I went there first. She mentioned you might be here," Shawn replied.

"Right, of course," Danni said. "This is weird, isn't it?"

"Kind of," Shawn replied with a smile. "We used to be able to talk about anything, now it feels-"

"Forced," Danni finished for him.

"Yeah."

"It's my fault," Danni said sadly. "I've always been awkward. You know that." She laughed uneasily.

"You were awkward, but confidant," Shawn put in.

"It seems I lost some of that," Danni admitted.

"I don't blame you. Maybe we can do dinner tonight? Just for old time's sake," Shawn said hopefully.

"Yeah, that sounds good. You'll have to catch me up on everything you've been up to. I've done nothing, so I'll live vicariously through you." She seemed in better spirits and it gave Shawn hope. The old Danni was still in there somewhere.
