A/N: So, um. Written in like five minutes and totally unbetaed, kinda quadruple-drabble sorta thing. Inspired by Celtic Woman's rendition of "Beyond the Sea," so it went like "somewhere beyond the sea he's there, watching for me," that sort of thing. Add that to the meaning of Kairi's name (sea!) and then you get this little Sokai thing. Please review if you're inclined; it's fun!

Beyond the Sea

Kairi had always wanted to sail far far away. Because somewhere, beyond the sea, there was adventure and things unknown.

And though she would have to leave home behind, she went sailing, went off to chase the horizon and the adventure that lay beyond it.

---

The day she left, she had kissed Sora goodbye and promised to bring back sapphires blue as his eyes, and capture fireflies for him in bottles, and bring back all the exotic food she could get her hands on, and everything else he could possibly want.

But he had been difficult, like she thought he would. He had clung to her, had told her that she had to promise she would always be careful. He didn't want the sea to take her away from him, not when they had gone through so much to hold each other again.

She smiled at him and told him that she would be fine, that she wouldn't sail again after this. That all she wanted was the breeze in her hair, to have the sea raise her up to more than she could be.

She knows, beyond a doubt, that her heart will lead her home when it's time.

But for now, she surrenders to the wind in her sails and the following sea.

---

She doesn't realize how much she really needs him until she's somewhere beyond the stars. Weeks have passed and the ocean and the sky are still open, still inviting, but she can't help but look back, can't help but feel sick for Sora.

She took all of it for granted: his smile, his voice, his laugh, his chivalry and how he insisted, always insisted on opening doors for her and pulling out her chair and helping her in and out of her boat.

And when she takes a moment to just drift on the sea while she sleeps, all she does is dream of him the whole night through.

She wakes up with his name on her lips.

Sora, Sora, Sora.

---

He stands on golden sands and watches the ships that go sailing.

He stands on golden sands and waits for his Kairi to come home.

---

She looks up to the sky and watches the clouds go by.

She looks up to the sky and sails on home to Sora.

---

She lands at the dock where he stands, where he races to open his arms to her.

They kiss, just like before. They're happy, so happy to be together again beyond the sea.

And never again will Kairi go sailing.

She doesn't need it, not anymore, not when she can always chase the sky in Sora's eyes.
