So I was thinking, how did Rufus survive. All he said in Advent Children was "The day of the explosion, I manage to get out of the building before it collapsed." And I thought, there must be Turks in there somewhere. Then again, I'm pretty sure there are Turks everywhere... :-)
Disclaimer: I don't own the Turks, or anything else. But you knew that.
"Remember the spirit of the Turks!" Elena waved as she turned and ran down the tunnel.
"Our mission's finished." Rude turned away from Cloud and AVALANCHE to disappear into the shadows after Reno and Elena.
"No, not finished." Reno was waiting for them at the next junction, leaning casually against a pillar.
"But Heidegger's orders were to kill the AVALANCHE members," said Elena, "and I guess we haven't done that exactly but if we're not going to kill them after all then our mission is finished… right?"
"Not quite." Reno shifted his weight to look at Elena. "What was that you said about the spirit of the Turks?"
"That 'our company may be in turmoil, but an order's an order?'"
"No." Reno corrected her. "After that, you said that's 'the will and spirit of the Turks.' But what is it we really do? We protect Shinra interests, and most of all the President."
"We haven't seen a body," Rude said simply.
"Exactly. And until I do, I don't take orders from Heidegger. So come on." Reno pushed off the wall and started back up the tunnel towards the Shinra building.
The power had gone out through part of the building, and while the fires were probably small, it wouldn't be safe to use the elevator. Reno gazed up at the tower, considered their options. It might not be safe to move the president far either, even if they found him. "There's no way I'm taking the stairs to the seventieth floor. Elena, get a helicopter."
Before long, Elena was hovering just above the balcony surrounding what had once been Rufus' office while Reno and Rude surveyed the damage. There was glass everywhere and most of the furniture was broken. The contents of the desk had been scattered, if not by the initial Weapon blasts, then by the considerable wind from the helicopter. Rufus was nowhere to be seen.
"Blood," said Rude. He felt no need to elaborate.
Reno approached to see for himself. "Not enough, and no body. There should be blood everywhere from the flying glass."
"Or somebody moved him?"
"Not a chance. Only an executive could get up here, and Heidegger or Scarlet would have finished the job."
"Who says they didn't try?" A white clad figure rolled out from under a large schematic that had been lying with other scattered paperwork and half a desk on the floor. Blood spots had begun to show down one side of his coat. They could see glass protruding from his sleeves and pant leg as he struggled to his feet. "It's a good thing that I wear loose clothing and neither one of that power hungry pair looked too closely before deciding that I had been blown out the back of the building with the rest of my desk."
"President Rufus!" both Turks cried in alarm and ran to help him walk.
Reno flashed a signature grin and winked at Rufus. "Sir, Elena's waiting outside with your ride. You don't want to stand her up now, do you?"
A/N So I guess Heidegger and Scarlet are the Turks next target if they survived Cloud et. al. Coups are a tricky thing. ;-)
So leave me a revew. Review's make the world go 'round.
