"Claire."

The anguished words pull her from her happy reunion with her father as she turns to face the man behind her. Startled green eyes meet fright filled brown as they stare across the few feet at each other. She watches as Peter slowly raises his hands horrified before returning his gaze to hers, begging her to do what must be done.

She shakes her head violently, pulling away from her father and taking a step towards Peter, arm outreached. He steps back and whispers her name, as his hands glow more menacingly.

"You can control it." She pleads, trying to step closer.

"I don't know how. You have to do it!" Peter yells pulling away again.

"No!"

"You have to save the world!" He yells.

"Not like this!" She cries, tears streaming down her face as she watches the man before her fight for control of the uncontrollable.

"Do it!" He screams before throwing his head back as the energy courses through his body.

She drops her gaze from his and takes a deep breath before slowly reaching into her pocket and pulling out the piece of metal Peter had only handed to her hours before. She looks up, slowly raising the gun and holding it out in front of her. Peter holds her gaze, nodding in approval as she lifts the gun higher. He takes one last moment, as if memorizing her features, before turning around.

She is barely able to hold the gun steady, gripping it with two hands. She raises it up and in an instant the air is filled with the loud crack of the bullet. She falls back into her father's arms from the force of the gun watching in horror as the body in front of her falls to the ground, the glow slowly fading away.

"No." She whispers pulling away from her father and crawling over to the still form. She wrestles his body, trying to turn him over. "Please Peter. Don't leave me alone." She begs tears streaming down her cheeks. She watches in horror as his eyes slowly cloud over leaning over his chest, her ear resting upon his still heart.

The three men behind her step forward, ready to pull her away, before anyone notices what has happened. Her father reaches out a hand to lie on her shoulder when her head suddenly rises from Peter's still chest.

She watches him intently as his eyes regain their color and he sharply inhales his first breath, sitting up and coughing violently. She is almost thrown back from the force of his motion, but his arm quickly reaches out to catch her. Within moments a second hand joins the first clutching her other arm as brown eyes raise to meet green ones.

"Claire?"

"You told me to kill you. I didn't agree with the making it permanent part." She replies leaning forward to encircle him in a hug, delighting in the feel of his arms reaching around to hold her tight.

"You saved the world." He whispers into her ear. "You saved me." He finishes pulling her more tightly against him.
