"So this is it..." There was something between resignation and disappointment in Mandy's voice.
"Just the beginning," Grim corrected defensively. "It gets more interesting."
She stared down at the murky waters of the Acheron, which lapped half-heartedly at the barren shore.
"I don't have any money," she stated blankly, remembering the fee, remembering the other river.
"Doesn't matter. Nobody does any more." He waved a skeletal hand to catch the ferry's attention.
He nodded respectfully to the boatman as they stepped forward to board.
All was silent save the slap of water against the side of the boat. The screams would soon be within earshot.
"Where are we going?"
He grinned Death's grin, humorless and eternal. "Actually, I thought we'd go back to my place."
"Whatever."
Silence and water. Screams of the damned.
The castle was huge, but empty and dusty with disuse. Still, it was better than eternity in the river Styx.
