Good Friend

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha or YuYuHakusho, but I do wish I did.

Kagome sat on the sofa in her family shrine's living room, sipping a mug of hot chocolate absently as she read the newspaper. Her family was out to the movies, leaving her to rest before she had to go back to the Feudal Era, and Inuyasha.

She sighed and lowered the paper, only to begin staring blankly out into space. Her relationship with Inuyasha wasn't going very smoothly, mostly because he didn't understand that she had given up on him. Each time they got into an argument and she came home, she would go to see a 'friend' of hers, blocking her scent until she got there so Inuyasha wouldn't find her. The only reason she uncovered it at all was because her 'friend' said it calmed him down.

Speaking of him, she hadn't gone to see him in a while. She finished off her cocoa and wrote a quick note that her mother would understand but wouldn't give anything away if Inuyasha happened to come. The miko grabbed her coat and put on her shoes before walking out of the house and into the night air.

A smile flitted across her lips as she felt a breeze flow through her black hair. Taking a deep breath, she covered her scent and began running down the steps and across the street, in the general direction that she sensed his aura.

The fact that she could sense him at all meant that he was in Ningenkai. Since he was a Spirit Detective, he would often be in Reikai or Makai, thanks to the idiot toddler, though she couldn't complain because she was in the past just as much. He never told her how he came to be in the baby's employ, but she didn't mind. He enjoyed fighting alongside his friends, and that was what mattered.

She finally reached the apartment and knocked on the door. The other three were in there too, but that didn't matter; her coming over was a regular occurrence since they all had met.

Kuwabara was the one that opened the door and, after a brief moment of confusion, smiled. "Kagome is here!" With that, he simply gave her a small wave goodbye and turned around.

Her 'friend' was already walking to the door, ready to leave while the other three just laughed. She smiled at him and stepped aside so he could come out and close the door.

Once the door was closed, he snatched her wrist and pulled her close to him. The miko melted into the hug and uncovered her scent, knowing that that was what he was waiting for. She smiled when he sighed quietly. "What has he done, now?" She knew that he hated Inuyasha, and Inuyasha would probably hate him too if they ever met.

She laughed a little and placed her head on his chest. "He hasn't done anything this time; I was just home for a few days and decided to come see you."

He pulled back to stare at her as if saying, 'Are you serious?' Kagome laughed, causing him to smile.

He dipped his head and caught her lips with his, causing her to melt against him even more. They had shared a few kisses, but nothing overly serious. The miko allowed him to deepen the kiss after a mere moment's hesitation.

She had often heard that one's first real kill was mind-blowing, and, so far, he wasn't disproving that statement.

He pulled back to let her breathe and smiled down at her.

Kagome smiled back up at him, thinking back to a lesson she remembered from somewhere.

A friend is someone you go to for comfort, but a good friend is someone you go to just to be with them.
