Roy watched as Ed completely passed out on one of the two couches that were in his office. Ed had given a report and then fallen asleep. Sure Roy had been startled at first but once he heard soft snores, he began to worry a bit less. Ed would be fine.

Getting up, he went over to the door and locked it. He didn't want the rumor mill in his unit started. It was times like these that he realized just how fast Ed had grown up. Too fast actually. The only time he ever seemed peaceful was when he slept, and Roy saw him sleep a total of three times. Once on a bench at the train station while the two of them waited to catch their own trains. Another time was when Ed was in the hospital, and he had come to give Ed an update; and the last was knocking on the dorm room's door, and Al opening it. Ed was sleeping peacefully all those times.

He noticed the boy's face scrunch up as though he was having a nightmare and a whimper escaped. Roy sat down on the couch next to Ed and pulled him against himself. He stroked the boy's hair until the whimpering ceased and returned to quiet snoring.

"It's a shame. Really, it is that one as young as him is already so troubled. Maybe that's why my unit always looks out for each other. It's because we have two of the youngest officers, and one shouldn't even be one."

Roy sat there until the sun went down. He'd be damned if he didn't give Ed someone to look up to.

"After all, he's still a kid."

Gem/Raccoon: Fatherly fluff at its best. It was inspired by a picture on deviantart. The picture is SomeonetoprotectRoyxEd and the artist is coolnekochan. She said her picture was yaoi but I saw it as fatherly fluff between Ed and Roy.
