Syrupy Sounds

It was early morning, and nobody was awake yet. Well, that was what Mokona assumed as it woke up next to Syaoran. Not wanting to wake the poor boy up, it sneaked away, making its way to Sakura's room next.

The princess was also asleep, Mokona saw. That was good. She needed a lot of rest, especially if she was going to help with the café.

The room Fay and Kurogane shared was, rather surprisingly, empty. This confused Mokona. Where had they gone to? It wasn't the time to open the café yet, and Kurogane couldn't go oni-hunting without Syaoran, right? No reason for either of them to be up yet!

Mokona's search for the two adults led it towards the door of the kitchen. There it heard some strange sounds from within. Sounds that were unmistakably familiar voices.

"Watch out with the syrup, Kuro-pon."

"What do you mean, watch out? You're the one who got it all over me!"

"Ne, but that was on purpose, Kuro-rin. It was for distraction!"

"I figured that out by the time you'd already taken a bite."

Mokona's ears shot up. Now, this wasn't fair at all! Kurogane and Fay were clearly eating waffles all by themselves! And not only had they failed to mention this to Sakura and Syaoran, they had excluded Mokona as well!

Well, it wouldn't go on for long. Mokona wouldn't allow such unfairness to continue!

They had locked the door, most probably to keep hungry little Mokonas out. Well, that wouldn't work. It was obvious they didn't know all of Mokona's secret skills.

After a moment of wiggling an ear and applying Secret Skill #024 (Special Ear Lock-Picking) Mokona heard the lock clicking open.Turning the knob, it then opened the door, yelling.

"Fay and Kuro-rin are mean! They shouldn't –"

Mokona's yell, however, died halfway. It seemed there were no waffles involved. Instead, there was syrup all over Fay and Kurogane was licking it away. Another thing that was clearly not involved were clothes, and somehow Mokona doubted it was only to keep them from getting messy.

For a moment, Kurogane and Fay stared at Mokona. Mokona stared at Fay and Kurogane. Then, very slowly as though in a dream, Kurogane opened his mouth, apparently about to yell the living daylights out of poor Mokona.

Fay, however, silenced Kurogane with a warning gesture. "Hi, Moko-chan," he said with a smile. "What is it?"

"Mokona – Mokona thought you were eating waffles," Mokona said, ears drooping. "Mokona is sorry for interrupting…"

"It's okay." Fay smiled some more. "Look, if you can go out, lock the door, and keep Sakura-chan and Syaoran-kun away from here for the next hour or so, I'll make you a huge pile of waffles, okay?"

"Okay!" chirped Mokona, again cheerful. Waffles could make anything better. So, it turned away and bounced out of the room, shouting as it went, "Just don't use all the syrup!"

Whatever Kurogane threw at it was safely blocked by the closing door.
