Stumped

"I'm stumped." Mai cried in frustration as she fiddled with her pencil, looking down at the blank paper in front of her.

She was seated near one of the many lavish ponds at the Ouran Academy.

She had hoped that she would get inspiration to draw just by looking at the scenery around her.

She sighed. "It's no use."

She laid down and closed her eyes for a while.

Suddenly she heard a big, "OOF!!"

She sat up quickly, and turned around.

On the ground, was a raven haired boy and an extremely annoyed look on his face.

"A-are you o-okay?" Mai asked hesitating.

The boy grunted and fixed his glasses. He stood up and dusted himself.

Mai blinked and shrugged. "I might as well get up too." She thought as she picked up her pencils and paper on the soft grass.

She turned around and she saw that he hadn't left yet. In fact, he was eyeing her with the most peculiar expression on his face.

She looked at him quizzically. "A-are you okay?" she asked again.

"Hmm… Yes, I am." He said, in a surprisingly cool voice.

She smiled weakly as she introduced herself, "Uh… I-I'm Mai."

He smirked. "I know."

She looked up at him so fast that she thought she heard her neck crack.

"How'd you know?" She asked suspiciously.

"I just do." And with that, his glasses glinted evilly in the mid afternoon sun.

Mai suppressed a shudder. She wasn't intimidated by him, in fact he interested her.

"A-and who might you be?" Mai dared to ask.

"You don't know?" He asked, apparently surprised.

Mai blushed. She doesn't like being embarrassed.

"I asked you, who are you!?" Mai asked angrily.

He looked up with an evil glare.

"Girls usually know who I am. It's a proven fact." His glasses glinted once more.

"Hmph. Don't be so full of yourself." Mai said as she prepared to walk away.

He just looked at her.

Sighing, he called out, "Wait."

Mai sighed and turned again to face the mysterious and very irritating raven haired boy.

He sighed once more as he pinched the bridge of his nose delicately.

"I'm sorry if I made you upset."

Mai blinked in surprise. "He apologized? That's the last thing I expected." She thought to herself.

He grinned weakly. "Listen to me, I'm actually apologizing."

Mai offered a weak grin in return.

"So, will you answer me now?" she asked.

"It's not like I have a choice now do I?" he sighed, "Kyouya Ootori."

"So… how come you know me?"

He raised an eyebrow.

"Why, I've known you since the start of your school year. Don't you recall seeing me?"

Mai blinked again. "What is it with this stranger? He seems so familiar…"

She was stumped, yet again.

Then it suddenly hit her. It hit her hard.

Her mouth made a little "O" as she remembered why the boy seemed so familiar.

"Y-y-you're the boy I bumped into! I-I broke your laptop!"

Mai looked down, ashamed.

Suddenly, she heard him chuckle.

She looked up and she saw Kyouya smirking at her.

"Yes, you did. Even though you did break my laptop…" he trailed off.

"Do you remember what I did?" he turned to face her.

"Yeah," she said. "You said it was alright and… Hey, wait a minute! Why didn't you make me pay?"

She looked at him suspiciously for the second time that afternoon.

He looked thoughtful for a moment, as if he were choosing his words carefully.

"Cos," He said, as her face was suddenly in his hands.

Mai blinked in surprise.

"I realized then…", He brought his face closer to hers.

She squirmed and blushed furiously.

"... that I really liked you."

And he brushed his lips softly with hers.
