Hello and happy Valentine's day. I was surprised at how few Valentine stories there are, so I decided to write this drabble. This story isn't really very Valentine-ish (if there is ever such a word), but it has some a small mention of it. You'll probably have to squint to see it though.
Please enjoy, even if it's very short.

Just One Rose
Botan never seemed to get what she wanted.
She never receive a long, fruitful life of a human; the desire to be part of life and bond with all people in the world strong in her heart. To exist among fellow humans with blood pumping in her veins, and complete a healthful way of life.
But no, in a fatal swoop, she lost her life and the pleasures of remembering it, chosen for a destiny of blank memories and faces that haunted her constantly.
The joy of being in a family connected by blood was never hers. Having parents to hold and comfort her had become a distant dream now.
In its place, she got three protective brothers; one almost heroic and contemptuous, another goofy, but pure hearted, and the last more intelligent, but slightly aloof in demeanor.
She had wanted to find love, not like in sappy romance movies and novels, but a down-to-earth love. A lover who was caring, but not obsessive, and could provide her with what she needed and sought for.
Instead, she received a man who was quiet, unexpressive, and quite possessive, especially when it came to her or matters involving her. In fact, he was the exact opposite of her, a true, full blooded demon, literally.
And rather than the marriage of the heart, she received the bonding of the soul. And from that union she was given all she wanted, and then some. She got an eternal love.
She sighed and stood up, mere inches away from falling nearly ten stories high, and stretched toward the sky.
"Onna." Her head perked up at the call and spun around on her heel. In a flash, he was behind her and pushing her more inland. "Don't stand near the edge."
She had to giggle.
"What?" She asked softly as he motioned her to sit in the center of the apartment building roof.
"Hn." He shuffled through his cloak and pulled out a fragrant, blue rose, all the thorns stripped off. "Here."
She took on the look of utter surprise; surely he didn't know of the human tradition of Valentine's Day. She always expected a bunch of dark red roses and a box of chocolates for her first Valentines Day with a lover; just as an average human woman would receive from her koibito. She expected a childish gesture of a fleeting love fabricated with unkept pledges of undying love.
But again, fate was an odd thing.
Instead of the sickingly sugary candy and roses that reminded her of blood, she got a perfect blue rose. As mysterious and exquisite as their love, abundant with promises that would undoubtingly be fulfilled. After all, her mate was a man of his word.
He watched her expression carefully with a frown on his face, evidently he thought he did something wrong.
He was going to pull away until she cupped his hand with hers.
"It's beautiful; thank you." She said amorously, pulling him close. Carefully, she placed a delicate kiss on his forehead, over the wisps of charcoal hair and white bandana with extra regard to where the Jagan was implanted. He accepted the contact wholeheartedly.
"Let's go home." She smiled brightly and he nodded curtly. As they walked toward the stairwell, she reached over to hold his hand, to which he didn't refuse.
Botan never seemed to get what she wanted; she always got a whole lot more.
So short, it feels weird with such little fluff. I hope you enjoyed it and please review.
