Sasuke felt a tapping next to his elbow. He looked down at the desk near his arm and picked up a folded sheet of paper.

What is this? Sasuke looked at the paper. On it was written: TO SASUKE. He recognized the handwriting as Naruto's.

What could he possibly want? Sasuke slowly opened the note.

Sasuke, do you like me?

Sasuke glanced over at Naruto and then quickly wrote down a response.

Don't be stupid dobe. I've told you that you're my best friend. Shouldn't that answer your question?

Sasuke refolded the paper and handed it back to Naruto. A few seconds later he felt the tapping at his elbow again. He opened the note once again.

I know that teme! But that's not what I mean. I mean do you like me? As in, would you back away if I tried to kiss you?

Sasuke looked over at Naruto. Naruto stared at the desk with his hands on front of him, twiddling his thumbs. He seemed to be anxious. Sasuke smiled to himself and wrote a single line on the paper. He handed the paper back to Naruto.

When Naruto read the note, he instantly became his usual ball of sunshine. The bell rang a few moments later. Everyone rushed out of the room as quickly as possible. Everyone except for, of course, Shikamaru.

He waited until everyone had left and then slowly got up from his desk. On his way to the door he stepped on something. He bent sown and picked up the note that Naruto had accidentally dropped as he had hurried out of the room.

Shikamaru opened and read the note. As he came to the last line he smiled. "That Sasuke. Another secret I'll have to keep. How troublesome."

I would never back away from you Naruto.
